Chapter 54 Paulo
Paulo pulled Taytra behind a clump of cacti, trying to shield their position.
“Who is that?” Taytra asked, squinting into the distance and the dust on the trail.
“It must be one of the soldiers in his group. Maybe something happened with the trail.”
She turned to him. “You said it was on purpose?”
“It was, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t issues. He peeked around the edge of the plants. Ward and the injured soldier were making progress but it was clear they were struggling. Paulo glanced up the trail ahead. “We don’t have much time. We have to help them! We can’t just leave them out here to try to make the cut off.” Taytra stood and started to move toward the duo.
“Wait.” Paulo grabbed her arm. “We need to make sure it is clear.”
