Alar did not return to the house for the rest of the day. After grazing the horses, he did a bit of fence work that had gone wanting for a while. He then went out to inspect the fields in preparation for the spring planting before going off to spend a couple hours in the forest. Though he did not return for lunch, Adam was not unduly worried. He knew his mate better than anyone alive, and knew that he needed time to himself, especially when he had a lot on his mind. And at any rate, it gave him a bit of time to tend to his gardening and various domestic chores. It was not until sunset that Alar returned, and when he did, he was still not especially talkative. A simple “Evening,” was all that Adam received in greeting. “Evening,” he replied. “Good day out there?” “Productive. What’s that cooking?” He sniffed. “Some sort of bread?” “Aye. Had a few acorns leftover, so I decided to put them in a loaf. Along with a few carrots and some smoked ham with apple gravy.” “Sounds nice.” “Well, it’s just about ready, so wash up if you haven’t, then take a seat.” Alar went to clean his paws and face, then returned to sit and wait patiently as Adam finished everything up. Watching him work in his neat and efficient manner reminded Alar just how much he cherished moments like this. It was the simple, domestic farm life he had always dreamed of in his youth. Why should he have to give it all up for some distant affair that had so little to do with him? He felt a pang of bitterness at the very thought, though the prospect of sampling his husband’s excellent cooking assuaged his mood just a bit. He smiled for the first time since that morning as Adam served him his plate. “Thanks, hon,” he said, rising from his seat to give him a little peck on the cheek. “You’re the best.” “Not in the least,” replied Adam. “But I’ll take whatever I can get.” He went to fetch himself a plateful, then joined Alar at the table where they bowed their heads and clasped their paws together as Adam intoned, “Lord, we thank you for this fare, and pray that it may keep us strong and whole. Amen.” “Amen,” echoed Alar. They then proceeded to enjoy an unusually quiet supper together. Adam would occasionally draw Alar into some brief conversation about how the animals were doing or what the state of the woods was, but it always died away into an awkward pause again. By the end of the meal, Adam had yet to penetrate his mate’s innermost thoughts. They cleared the table together, and Alar began washing everything as usual. Adam retired to clean himself up, then made for their bedroom. There he undressed for the evening and settled down to read a book by candlelight. It was one of only a pawful of books they had in the whole house, and he had had it forever. Long enough to know every line by heart, really. Yet, he never grew bored with it. For it was this book that had first introduced him to the idea that he was not alone in his attraction to other males. It had been this book that had given him the courage to pursue his secret crush and tell Alar how he felt. He owed it so much, and loved it nearly as much as his dearest mate. After a little while he was joined by Alar, who had likewise washed, and slipped out of his shorts upon entering. He joined his companion in bed without a word. Adam continued reading, knowing that Alar would open up when he was ready and not a moment before. As it happened, that moment had come. “You’re absolutely sure about going, then?” “Huh?” Adam set his book aside, taken off guard. “We have everything going so well here,” Alar continued. “You’re sure you want to just up and abandon it right before planting time?” “It’s not like that, dear. We wouldn’t be abandoning anything. I just think getting out and seeing the world a bit might do us some good. A little change of pace, like I said before.” “This isn’t like having kids, Adam. This could be a matter of life and death. And as I said before, I…I couldn’t bear the thought of something happening to you.” He gently brushed Adam’s whiskers with his paw. “Well, that’s very sweet, and I appreciate your concern.” Adam took Alar’s paw and held it tenderly in his own. “But nothing’s going to happen to me. You’ll be there to protect me, and thanks to your lessons, I’m not totally defenseless either. Besides, that squirrel said they weren’t expecting any real trouble.” “I know what he said. Whether it was the whole truth or not remains to be seen.” “Oh, don’t worry so much!” Adam gave him another playful shove. “It’ll be great fun. And we’ll get to see our old friends again. Won’t that be lovely?” “Yes, I suppose it will.” Alar sighed, then slowly nodded. “All right. We’ll make arrangements to leave tomorrow. I’ll contact Kendrick and ask him to look after the place in our absence. Morning after, we’ll depart for Parras. All right?” “Deal.” Adam leaned over and kissed him to seal their pact. He then looked down and placed a paw lightly on Alar’s chest. “Now then, where were we before being so rudely interrupted this morning?” He looked up with a gleam in his eye which Alar recognized well. He smiled and tickled his mate under the chin. “Ahh, yes. I remember,” he said. “I believe it went something like this.” He promptly engaged Adam in a deep kiss, turning on his side so he could more easily embrace him. Adam welcomed freely the affections being showered on him, running his paws up and down Alar’s muscular body over and over. The two remained locked together in this exchange of passion for a minute or so before Alar’s paw strayed lower, resting on Adam’s sheath. His mate smiled and gave a mischievous little chuckle as he fondled it gently, sometimes using his entire paw; sometimes just running a single claw through the short fur coating it. In this way he could feel as Adam’s already half erect member became more and more swollen by the second. When it had grown enough, he broke off the kiss, took hold of it, and began stroking with his paw. “That feel good?” he asked softly. “Mhmm,” Adam groaned, still smiling. “But what about you?” “I’m already there.” Alar thrust his hips forward slightly so that his p***s rested on Adam’s thigh. Adam reached down and gave it a gentle squeeze, then nodded. “Guess it’s time, then.” “Guess so.” Adam turned and reached under the bed for the little box he kept there. From it he withdrew a little jar and unscrewed the lid. It smelled of minty leaves and other pleasant things. Adam dabbed a paw in and scooped out a goodly portion of the substance, then promptly slathered it all over Alar’s member. It was pleasantly cool against his hot flesh, and he let out a shuddering sigh. Adam then took another pawful and applied it to his tail hole, making sure to get it in as deep as possible with a couple of claws. He closed and replaced the jar, wiped his paw on a cloth, then smiled at Alar. “Ready when you are,” he said. Alar needed no second bidding, and took up a position on top of his mate. He took firm hold of his member and slid it expertly into the hole. Adam gasped lightly, then writhed with pleasure. Their lips locked together again as he slowly began the familiar rhythmic thrusting motions that he had practiced so many times. Adam let out a little grunt with each thrust, and wrapped his legs around Alar as though to draw him in deeper. Gradually Alar thrust faster and faster. Adam reached down with one paw and began stroking himself. Alar’s pulse quickened; his body grew hotter and hotter. At last the fires of passion consumed them both. Their moans blended together into a wild, discordant symphony. Wave after wave of semen gushed forth from the loins of the two buck squirrels: Adam’s all over himself and Alar’s inside of Adam. For a moment it truly felt as though their souls had merged into one. Then, all too soon, they split apart and drifted lazily back to reality. Alar’s thrusts slowed to a halt, and Adam removed his paw from his overheated member. Panting from the effort, the two broke off the kiss and chuckled lightly before Alar withdrew from Adam’s tail hole. Using the same cloth as before, the two wiped themselves off as best they could, then tossed it aside and lay back on the bed. “There,” said Alar. “All better?” “Mmm. Much,” replied Adam. “I love you to the heavens and back, Adam. Just remember that when we’re out on the road.” “I will. And I love you too.” The two bucks then clasped their paws together as Alar intoned a nightly prayer for them both. Afterward they kissed once more and bade each other a fond “Good night.” Adam rolled over onto his right side and Alar did the same. He then threw an arm about his mate’s waist and snuggled up close. Within minutes they were both fast asleep.
