CHAPTER 2: HELP GONE WRONG

"You won't be looking for a job anymore after this, Crazy Girl. Your fate is in Mr. Felix's hands now," the driver replied in a cold tone that made the hair on the back of Megan's neck stand up. "What do you mean?! I just helped him! I should be getting a reward, some money, or at least a thank you—not getting kidn*pped!" Megan pounded on the car seat. "Hey! Do you hear me?! I want out! Let me out now!" "This girl is so noisy! If you don't shut up, I'm going to duct tape your mouth!" the man in the front seat barked, looking back with eyes flashing a threat. Megan fell silent for a moment, staring at Felix, whose face grew paler under the cabin lights. She felt the pulse in the hand gripping her; it was weak but still there. Megan took a long breath, trying to calm her racing heart. "Who are you really, Felix? Why are your men so scary? I feel like I'm in a damn mafia movie," Megan murmured softly to the unconscious man. "I just wanted a quiet life; why did things have to get so complicated?" The car sped through the wet streets of Jakarta, weaving through the night traffic at high speed. Megan looked out the window, realizing they had left the city and were heading toward quiet hills. "Hey, why is it getting so dark?! Are you going to throw me off a cliff?!" Megan started to panic again. "I promise I won't call the police! I swear! I'll keep my mouth shut! Just drop me on the side of the road, I'll walk home!” "Do you think after seeing Mr. Felix in that condition, we'd just let you go? Don't dream," the driver laughed cynically. "You've entered his world. And once you're in, there are only two ways out: death or becoming his." "Huh?! Whose?! This Felix guy's?! Gross! I just got betrayed by a guy; I don't want anything to do with men anymore, especially his type!" Megan snapped, though her heart sank at the word 'death.' "You talk too much. You'd better pray Mr. Felix doesn't die. Because if he doesn't wake up tomorrow morning,we're burying you alive with him as a sign of loyalty," the man in the front said casually, as if discussing a dinner menu. Megan’s eyes widened. "Crazy! You're all insane! I'm the one who helped him, so why am I the one getting buried?! Where is the logic in that, you bastard!" "In our world, logic isn't important. What matters is loyalty and the Master's orders," he replied coldly. Megan looked down at her hand, still locked in Felix's grasp. His blood had dried, making their skin feel sticky against each other. She felt exhausted, broken, and now, deeply threatened. "Felix... listen. If you actually get me buried alive, I swear my ghost will haunt your mansion every night!" Megan whispered in Felix's ear, even though she knew he couldn't hear her. "Wake up, you jerk. Don't let me die a pointless death because of my own kindness." The car finally turned into a giant iron gate guarded by men armed to the teeth. In front of them stood a magnificent mansion that looked more like a fortress than a home. The lights from the building reflected off the wet asphalt, giving an impression of luxury that was also deeply chilling."Get out! Fast!" Megan was pulled out of the car. She was forced to follow because Felix still hadn't let go. Several nurses with full medical equipment were already waiting at the entrance. They quickly moved Aiden onto a gurney. "Hey! What about his hand?! It's still attached!" Megan ran alongside the gurney, her arm being pulled along by the nurses' movements. "Just cut the girl's hand off if it won't come loose!" one of Felix's men from the alley joked. "Hey, watch it! I only have two hands, don't you dare cut anything, you monkey!" Megan screamed angrily. "Felix! Wake up! Let go of my hand! I want to go home!" "Mr. Felix has lost a lot of blood! Get him to the private operating room immediately!" one of the doctors shouted. Megan was dragged into the vast mansion. The polished marble floor felt cold against her bare feet—her shoes had been lost somewhere along the way. She could only surrender as she was brought into a room filled with advanced medical equipment. "I'm sorry, Miss. You have to stay here because Mr. Felix won't release his grip," a female nurse said flatly, as if this were a common occurrence. "This is insane... I actually have to stay with him during surgery?!" Megan stared in horror at the bright surgical lights. "Hey, you can hear me, right? I hate the smell of hospitals! Let go right now or I'll bite your hand!" But Felix gave no response. His breathing was short and heavy as the doctors began working quickly, cutting away his expensive clothes to expose the gunshot wound in his abdomen. "Oxygen saturation is dropping!Intubate him!" "Blood pressure is crashing! Prepare for a transfusion!" Megan could only stand frozen by the side of the bed, her hand still trapped between Felix's hand and the gurney rail. She watched the bloody scene with overwhelming nausea. Every incision, every clamp on a blood vessel—she witnessed it all with her own eyes. "Doctor, he's not going to die, is he?" Megan asked softly, her voice trembling."We are doing our best, Miss. Please don't talk so we can concentrate," the doctor replied without looking up. Megan sighed. She closed her eyes tight, trying to think of something else. She remembered James kissing Maya right in front of her eyes that afternoon. She remembered her landlord throwing her old suitcase into the street while cursing her out because she was three months behind on rent. All that pain gathered into one, making her chest feel tight. "Why do I have to go through all this on the same day?" Megan murmured quietly. Tears flowed down her dirty cheeks again. "Why didn't God just let me die on that bridge? Why bring me here?" Suddenly, she felt Felix's fingers move. His grip, which had been stiff, began to soften slightly, but it didn't release. Megan opened her eyes and saw Felix's face up close. Despite being covered in sweat and looking in pain, the man had very sharp, handsome features. There was an aura of authority that even a gunshot wound couldn't erase. "Are you someone important, Felix?” Megan whispered. "I hope you're actually a good person. Because if you turn out to be a villain who wants to kill me after I saved you... I'll be the first person to kick you in the face." The surgery lasted for hours that felt like an eternity to Megan. She had to remain standing, then sitting on a small chair pulled close, and even fell asleep in a very uncomfortable sitting position. Her head rested on the edge of the bed, right next to Felix’s arm.
