Maya woke everyone at midnight. Her Seeker light burned red.
“Something's wrong. A fragment just activated fifty miles south. It's huge.”
“How huge?” Julian asked.
“Bigger than anything I've ever felt. It's tearing the air.”
They drove toward the light. Red glow on the horizon. The sky looked wrong. Clouds moved in two directions at once.
Kira held her head. “I hear screaming. Hundreds of people. The fragment is affecting everyone in a small town.”
“What's it doing?” Dara asked.
“Making them see things. Nightmares. But real. One woman saw her dead husband. He hit her.”
Julian pressed the gas. “We need to contain this fast.”
