Maya's Seeker blinked yellow. Not red. Yellow.
“The fragment is small,” she said. “But it's moving fast. Faster than anything I've tracked.”
“Where?” Julian asked.
“Kansas City. A bank.”
They flew to Kansas City. The bank looked normal. Customers stood in line. Tellers counted cash. But no one moved.
Kira pressed her ear to the glass. “No heartbeats. No breathing. They're frozen.”
Dr. Ellis grabbed Julian's arm. “That's the Pauser. I created it to stop bleeding during surgeries. Instead, it stops time for everyone except the host.”
“Who's the host?”
Maya pointed at a man in a gray suit. He walked through the frozen crowd. Collected cash from open drawers. He moved normally. Everyone else stood still.
“He's robbing the bank,” Dara said.
“He's using the fragment to freeze time.”
