They drove back to Chen’s warehouse with thirty-four strangers packed into four rented buses. Leo slept through the entire trip. Tamara stayed beside him. “He’s dreaming,” the Dreamer said through Julian’s band. “But his dreams are full of screaming.” Julian glanced over. “What is he seeing?” “The other fragments. The ones still out there. They’re calling to him.” Julian looked at the map on the screen. Three new red dots had appeared. Larger than the others. ... The Meeting Chen gathered everyone in the main room. The thirty-four survivors sat on the floor. Cole stood beside a whiteboard. “Experiment Seven started as a memory backup project,” Cole explained. “Then the fragment learned how people think. It stopped storing memories and started replacing them.” Pip frowned.
