The bunker had one weakness. A maintenance tunnel. Two feet wide. Led outside.
Briggs found it.
Kira woke everyone at 3 AM. “Footsteps. Many. Coming through the tunnel.”
“How many?” Julian asked.
“Ten. Maybe twelve. Carrying explosives.”
Dara grabbed her blade. “They want to blow us up.”
“They want to trap us,” Julian said. “Collapse the tunnel. We suffocate.”
The Defense
Leo’s arm still in a sling. He stood anyway. “I can block the tunnel. My body.”
“No,” Tamara said.
“I’m the biggest.”
Julian grabbed Leo’s shoulder. “You’re also the only one who can lift the emergency door. Go to the bunker entrance. Wait for my signal.”
Leo ran.
Marcus and Pip grabbed crowbars. Felix brought his guitar. Kira closed her eyes.
“First soldier is twenty meters from the bunker wall,” she said.
