The escape

455 Words
I have always found myself in strange situations, but getting away from my abusive ex husband wasn’t on my list of things to do today. I went to the house we shared to pick up the last few boxes I had left to take back to my packs lodge when Victor came home early from work. His breathe reeked of scotch already and I knew my being there would cause a fight. “What’re you doing here?” He scoffed as he staggered towards me. “I’m just getting the last of my boxes” I whimpered as I started to back out towards the front door. The more that I backed away the more victor sped up to close the distance between us. “Please just let me grab the rest of my stuff and you’ll never have to see me again” I pleaded, knowing what was about to happen. “Oh no” victor chuckled, “you’re going to leave right now” he growled as he grabbed me by my shoulders. Victor shoved me out of the front door and the force from it made me tumble down the porch steps. As I laid there in agony, I saw an unfamiliar man kneel down and extend their hand to help me up. “Ma’am, are you okay?” The man asked, seeming concerned. I shot to my feet and brushed myself off and all I could do is look at him. He was so breathtaking with his brown eyes with the slightest of golden flecks in them. He had to be at least 6 foot 3 with big shoulders and a smile that could light up the night. “Um yes, I’m um, I’m okay” I stammered. “Do you need any help?” He asked in a strangely worried way. “I’m just trying to gather the rest of my belongings to finish my move to my families lodge” I choked out trying not to cry. Without saying anything further, the man marched up the steps to the door and shoved it open. He walked right in, which took Victor by surprise and the man grabbed him and pushed him down into his recliner. “She is going to get the rest of her stuff, and you are going to sit here without saying another word while she does it. Do you understand?” The man said almost possessively. To which Victor just shook his head agreeing, as if he was too scared to speak. I retrieved my belongings and the man followed me out to my car and watched to make sure Victor didn’t follow me out. “ my name is Caleb by the way”.
