Two months later, Annabel's eyes widened in shock as she stood frozen outside the slightly opened bedroom door. From the narrow gap, she could clearly see what was happening inside the room.
Inside were two people — Jones, her so-called husband, and a woman she had met her once and Jones claimed she was his distant cousin, Jennifer, wrapped up in an intimate moment together.
"Jones, what if your wife catches us?" Jennifer asked nervously, adjusting her hair as she looked at him.
Jones let out a mocking laugh. "She won't," he replied confidently. "Annabel is a workaholic and too naïve ". Jennifer smiled faintly before taking a deep breath,"Jones am pregnant" she announced casually "And the baby is yours"
Annabel gasped silently from outside the door covering her mouth quickly to avoid being noticed.
Jones froze completely.
His expression drained of color as he stared at Jennifer in disbelief.
"You're… pregnant?" he asked slowly.
Jennifer folded her arms confidently, a small smirk forming on her lips.
"Yes."
Jones ran a frustrated hand through his hair.
"How is that even possible?"
Jennifer scoffed.
"Seriously?"
She stepped closer.
"Remember the night before your wedding?"
Jones' eyes widened slightly as the memory hit him.
Jennifer continued calmly,
"You said you wanted to have fun one last time before getting married."
Silence fell between them.
Then she placed a hand over her stomach dramatically.
"And now," she whispered, staring directly into his eyes, "I'm carrying your child, Jones."
Jones paced around the bedroom for a minute before looking up at the clock "she'll be back in an hour this is not the place to discuss this meet me at Val's café tomorrow by 4pm"
Annabel stepped back annoyed and disgusted she had always known Jones never truly loved her.
"I'll show Jones and his mistress that I'm not stupid," Annabel muttered to herself, a cold smirk slowly forming on her lips despite the pain burning inside her chest.
Taking a deep breath, she quietly stepped away from the hallway and left the house for a while, carefully composing herself before returning later that evening as though nothing had happened.
The moment she walked through the front door, Jones appeared almost immediately.
"Sweetheart, you're back," he said warmly, flashing her the same charming smile that made her want to throw up."You took forever. I missed you."
He pulled her gently into his arms for a soft embrace, pretending to be the loving husband he clearly was not.
This time, however, Annabel saw through every bit of it.
Still, she didn't resist. Instead, she forced herself to play along.
"I'm really hungry," she said in a tired, weary voice, pretending nothing was wrong.
"Oh, perfect timing," Jones replied smoothly. "I made dinner for us. Come on, let's eat together, my love."
His voice was calm and affectionate, as though he hadn't been in another woman's arms just hours earlier.
Annabel sat down quietly at the dining table, masking her disgust behind a faint smile.
If I hadn't caught him with Jennifer today, she thought bitterly, I would have truly believed this charade he put up.
The next morning, Annabel left for work as usual, but throughout the entire day, one thought remained fixed in her mind — Jones' meeting with Jennifer at Val's Café by 4 p.m.
And this time, she planned to uncover everything.
Ever since her father passed away a month earlier, Annabel had officially taken over as the CEO of D-Tech Company, one of New York's leading firms in technology and electronics. Though the responsibility was enormous, she carried herself with confidence and authority, refusing to let anyone see how much pain she still carried inside.
Seated behind the large glass desk in her luxurious office, Annabel's expression remained cold and unreadable as she addressed her assistant.
"Debbie," she said firmly, "I need you to get me the newly released All Round CCTV Camera — the small but highly effective 2.0 version."
Debbie straightened immediately, listening carefully.
"I want them secretly installed in every corner and hallway of my house," Annabel continued calmly. "And make sure every camera is directly connected to my phone. Do you understand?"
"Yes, ma'am," Debbie replied respectfully with a slight bow of her head.
Annabel gave a small nod. "Good. Make sure the installation is clean and completely discreet.
"Understood, ma'am."
As Debbie turned to leave the office, Annabel spoke again without looking up from the documents on her desk.
"Oh, and Debbie…"
"Yes, ma'am?"
"I need a latte and a croissant."
"Right away, ma'am."
Debbie quietly exited the office while Annabel leaned back in her chair, her eyes darkening with determination. She was done being deceived.
Outside the office, Tina glanced curiously at Debbie the moment she stepped out.
"Why does Ms. suddenly want cameras installed in her house?" Tina asked quietly, clearly intrigued.
Debbie shot her a sharp look.
"Focus on your work, Tina," she replied bluntly. "And try minding your own business for once."
Embarrassed, Tina quickly lowered her gaze and returned to her desk while Debbie walked away to carry out Annabel's orders.
