Chapter 6

855 Words
The moment Annabel got home, she rushed straight to the kitchen, her hands trembling uncontrollably. She threw open the refrigerator door, grabbed a bottle of cold water, and emptied it in one go as though trying to wash away the disgust and shock still burning inside her. After finishing it, she leaned heavily against the counter and panted for breath. "I can't believe the nerve of that man," she muttered bitterly to herself, her eyes burning with anger and betrayal. For a long moment, silence filled the kitchen as countless thoughts raced through her mind. Then slowly, the shock in her expression faded and was replaced with something colder. Determination. "They think I'm weak," she whispered. "But I'll always be one step ahead of them." Without wasting another second, she picked up her phone and dialed Debbie's number. The call connected almost immediately. "Yes, ma'am?" Debbie's soft and respectful voice came through the line. "Is everything set up?" Annabel asked calmly. "Yes, ma'am," Debbie replied. "The cameras have all been installed successfully, and they're fully connected to your mobile phone now." A faint smile appeared on Annabel's lips. "Good," she said quietly. "Thank you." She ended the call and slowly lowered the phone, her expression darkening once again. "I'd really like to see them try giving my baby to another woman," she murmured coldly. "Like I said before… I, Annabel Dutchman, will always be one step ahead." A dangerous smile slowly formed on her lips. "And this time," she whispered to herself, "I have a surprise waiting for both of them" Annabel knew she would give birth earlier than Jennifer considering the fact the father of her child wasn't even Jones to begin with, she slowly planned on how to give birth and swapped the babies back when they thought their plan worked, she bribed the nurses and was able to get information on Jennifer's appointments and check ups, Just to make Jones believe their pregnancies were progressing exactly the same way, Annabel deliberately lied about her prenatal appointments. Jones, completely blinded by his obsession with Jennifer and his greed, never questioned her story. Instead, he focused all of his attention on Jennifer, believing he was secretly protecting the future he planned to steal through her child. And that single mistake became Annabel's greatest advantage. Because while Jones was busy following Jennifer around and neglecting his own wife, Annabel quietly gave birth weeks earlier without his knowledge, wearing a fake baby bump to keep up the act, she left her son under the safe care of a trusted nurse. That gave her enough time to prepare everything perfectly. Enough time to understand their plan. Enough time to outsmart them completely. By the time Jennifer eventually gave birth, Annabel had already secured her child safely and made sure every move afterward would work in her favor, she had bribed a doctor in advance. Jones thought he had been manipulating everyone all along. What he never realized was that Annabel had been controlling the game from the shadows long before he even understood they were playing one. Coincidentally, the doctor who had helped Annabel deliver her baby was one of her old high school classmates. Months earlier, Annabel had confided in her about everything—Jones, Jennifer, and their plan. After hearing the entire story, the doctor agreed to help. Together, they carefully arranged everything. Through a few discreet connections, the doctor helped Annabel temporarily obtain a few days old baby, while her real son remained safely under the care of a trusted nurse in another ward. It was risky. But it was the only way to expose Jones. The doctor had informed Annabel the moment Jennifer was admitted into labor. As expected, Jennifer had been assigned to the same hospital. Annabel quietly left her room and stood at the far end of the maternity wing where she couldn't easily be seen. A few meters away stood Jones. He paced nervously back and forth outside Jennifer's delivery room, anxiously waiting for news. Not for his wife. For his mistress. A bitter smile crossed Annabel's lips. Slowly, she pulled out her phone and dialed his number. Jones stared at his phone for a moment before answering. "Belle?" he asked. Annabel kept her voice weak and tired. "Where are you?" she asked softly. Without hesitation, Jones lied. "I'm out of town on a business trip," he replied smoothly. "I'll be back as soon as I can." Annabel's grip tightened around her phone, she had just told him she was in labour,Yet he couldn't even be bothered to pretend to care. Instead, he was standing outside another woman's delivery room. Annabel slowly lifted her gaze and watched him from across the hallway as he continued pacing anxiously. Not once did he suspect she could see him. Not once did he realize he had already been caught. The call ended. The screen went dark. For several seconds, Annabel simply stared at him. Then a small smile appeared on her lips. Everything was proceeding exactly as she had expected. And very soon, Jones would discover that he wasn't the only one capable of making plans.
