Chapter Forty Three
Emory's pov
I didn't know what possessed me to go to him. A part of my mind was pulling me back, trying to show how stupid that decision was but the greater part of my mind rather listened to my libido. It was as though after that last tidal wave, the scale in my eyes fell off. I went home and on my way back, I was seething and hitting the inside of my car. Dang, it! I would, wallow in self-pity and loathe another time, for now, I need to focus on the night's event.
If there was one thing I didn't like to do, it was having an excuse to get dolled up. I didn't usually wear makeup and dress all barbie-like. I was never the one for bright colors and the rest. But right now, as I stared at my reflection in the mirror, looking at all shades of brightness, I couldn't help but marvel at my reflection. Even though Alex and I were going as different entities to this event, he was my date and I couldn't be any happier around anyone else. The occurrence of this morning event with Gilbert was still very much in my head and even after a couple of glasses of alcohol, I still remembered the scene vividly.
"Let's go," Alex said as he opened his hands for me to grab. The driver held the door to the SUV open for us and we gladly stepped inside. My dress was a one-arm off-the-shoulder emerald cocktail dress with a slit that rested on my upper thigh. My heels were silver-colored, 6-inch classic Jimmy Choo stiletto heels. My clutch was in the same color as my shoes, my hair had been beautifully styled into the perfect chignon with a few loose strands at the back of my ear that fell down in curls and stopped right below my breast. My make-up was nude but my eyes had a deep dark crease cut and my lashes fanned out extravagantly. I might have gone a bit extra with my lips but that was the aim—innocent and boogie. I was somewhere in between classic, chic, sophisticated, and style.
"You look gorgeous" Alex chimed into my ears and I smiled broadly.
"As so do you" I replied to him. He interlaced our fingers together and settled our joined hands on his lap. The look on his face was very suggestive but I ignored him. In the past it was different but after meeting Gilbert after all this while and after somewhat re-enkindling our flame, it felt so wrong to do it with someone else. It felt so wrong to be with another man in that way, but holding hands with Alessandro couldn't be so wrong right?
"So tell me, how has managing your pack been?"
"It's been great so far. Thank you"
"You're welcome, baby"
"How is Stephanie?" I asked.
"Stephanie has been great. She's on a vacation with her boyfriend or fiance. I don't really know what they are to each other" Alex said like the grumpy older brother that he was.
"How can you not know who she is or what the man in her life stands for? She is your sister. Your baby sister for that matter" I said my whole expression, telling just how shocked I am. Not like it was supposed to come like an actual shock though, Alessandro had always been like that. Especially when the issue didn't concern me or him directly, he wasn't interested. He was too careless for his good sometimes.
"I have no interest in her f**k Life," Alex said as he scrunches his nose in distaste.
"More like her love life if you ask me" I protested with an eye roll
"So tell me. You are her sister too, right?"
"Hmmm" I shook my head for good measure. He probably didn't hear my hmmm.
"So you should know about her love life?"
"Yeah, of course, I do"
"So tell me, is she his fiancee or is she his girlfriend?"
"Psst. She is his fiancee of course…dumbhead"
"Sure…I can give you head. Just say the words mi lady…and trust me, it will be everything but dumb, because this mouth of mine sure knows how to talk and a bit of other kinky things too" he finished his sermon, and girl, did that words make my legs to shake? The answer was hell yeah!
But not because of Alessandro though. I have a thousand and one reasons why my legs were presently shaking and my stomach was almost turning inside out but none of them was sole because of Alessandro. True, he said the words, but Gilbert is the reason for my extra wants. What the hell did he do to me? And that stunt we pulled earlier in his bathroom….goddamn that man for looking like a freaking s*x god! I mean I had other plans to distract him, and I might have cooked up a little more than ten ideas as alternate plans but Gilbert effortlessly shamed all my hard work.
"What are you thinking about?" Alejandro asked concern in his voice and I felt a pang of hurt in my heart. He could not be here thinking about me while I zone out on another man—that man being his enemy.
"I was imagining your mouth working wonders on my body" I let out a straight mad-ass lie and Alessandro fell for it. Or maybe he didn't, but as far as my facial reading abilities could decipher, he didn't catch up to my lie. "Dammit" I muttered to myself when I found myself swooning over Gilbert for the trillionth time today.
"Trust me sweetie pie, I'd be more honored than glad to have a taste of your luscious body, but we are here at the venue. We cannot afford to create a scene. Might not work well for our reputation" I frantically brought up my head to look at my surroundings and not just have we indeed arrived at our destination but the driver has stopped.
"s**t" I cussed out and Alessandro smiled. "For how long have we been here?"
"Three minutes and for every second of the three minutes, you've been biting your lower lip, clenching your thighs, and holding tight to the car seat…your breath has been shallow too." He leaned towards me and flicked his tongue at the sensitive part of my ear "Tell me, baby girl? Do you want me that much? I'll gladly create a scene in front of these people if it means to make you feel good…right here, right now, and in this car."
"Maybe after. Let's go get 'em" I managed to breathe out before I gingerly pushed the car door open, not able to wait for the driver to do his job. The evening wiped through my face and offered my brain somewhat of an outlet to embrace. The hormones calm down a bit as they adjust to the change in the atmosphere...
"Let's go," Alessandro said and placed his arms at my lower back with his thumb grazing the upper part of my behind but I did well to ignore the fact.
The question is, are siblings supposed to be seen this way?
We arrived at the doorpost and after the security guard finished with his job, he ushered both Alessandro and me inside and we make our way through the massive doors. I held my breath as I soaked in the view before me. People. Important looking people. Women in insanely tight buns and red lips, all types of gowns with shimmering fabrics, heels of different inches, colors and brands, pearl, diamond, pieces of jewelry in styles of Ruby, Sapphire, and the rest kinds of sweet stones with we'll tailored men with shiny men shoes, stood as they laugh and made small talks in between. There were several groups of people scattered all over the area, some standing while some sitting in the beautifully decorated steel chair in the event hall, most with a glass of fine wine or champagne flutes. Alessandro soon walked a different part to greet his friends and business associates while doing the same. For associates we shared, we did together, and for others, we had separately, we did otherwise. I let out a breath and walked to a table and tenaciously take a seat. I placed my purse on the table before picking up a glass of wine and thankfully swallowed my first sip along with my nervousness. I felt the hair on my neck stood up, the kind of creepy feeling you get when someone is staring at you. Yeah, that was pretty much the way I was feeling, and as I swiped my head around, I caught four sets of eyes staring at me at once.
"Hello gorgeous" I heard a manly voice air out from my side. I looked at him to catch him taking the seat next to mine. The man's voice was so husky, I bet he looked husk, too.
Dang!
I looked at the man in an expensive suit and lifted my eyes to meet him. My eyes widened and I was on my champagne as memories of all our encounters from the time I was at the blood moon pack enveloped my senses. Dark, the drug lord! I should expect to see him in places like this too.
"Are you alright?" He asked with a furrowed brow and as I continued to cough he rubbed my back soothingly.
"I've got it" I heard a voice rumble from behind me. I sure knew the owner of that voice.
Gilbert! Oh hell!!
I stayed modified as Gilbert picked my hand up and pulled me up, his eyes studying me keenly and if I hadn't known better I'd say he was actually interested in my well-being. He placed his hand on the small of my back and was about to lead me off when I snagged the smell of Alessandro's Cologne.
Just great!!
"I'll take it from here….thank you," Alex said before leading me away with his hands full on my back. I didn't turn back to look but I was sure Gilbert was sending us death glares.
*************
"And the promising CEO award goes to Alpha Emory Salvatore Goldie Infantino" the announcer declared. Applause rang through the air as I made my way up to receive my award, but not without catching the hateful glare of Jenny and her twin. I was fighting the urge to stick my tongue out at her and mock her.
Psycho!
Impulsively, I turned to look at my nemesis. Gilbert on the other hand didn't portray any emotion. His face was just blank. I reached up on the podium and collected my award and after giving a very brief speech I came down from high. It felt so good to see the people that once hated me applaud me, but then I knew that I'd only drawn the battle line.
"Thank you, so much," I said to the people who congratulated me as the event almost came to an end. "Thank you," I added as I gave a curt nod. I checked my purse for my phone but I couldn't seem to find it.
"I think I left my phone inside. I'll be right back" I said to Alessandro with sad eyes. It was too much leaving him to deal with the media alone but what must be done, what be done. I couldn't afford to lose my phone or leave it in the wrong hands…. Damn! I had already made it past a few corners before Jenny stepped out from a corner and stopped right in front of me….
"May I help you?" I asked her sounding a bit polite
"As a matter of fact, I think I'm the one that might help you" he replied. My face contorted into a slightly confused one and he smirked.
"Emory …"
"Jenny…." I called mirroring her stance.
"I think it's just funny you know?" She started but I cut her off.
"Look Jenny, I don't have time for whatever you have up your sleeve…can you please save it another time?" I said and walked past her but stopped when I heard her giggle. Something just didn't seem right.
