Chapter Thirty One
Emory's POV
Once in the bathroom, I quickly took off my clothing until I was butt naked. I gathered my clothes and folded them neatly on a sink. Shifting on them meant ripping them apart and I couldn't afford that at the moment. My wolf was hitting all corners of my head for reasons I didn't know. Goldie was screaming l in my head.
"I want to run. '' she bared her ugly voice in my head.
"You are the one with an ugly voice" she retorted and I rolled my eyes.
"I promise you a run with Alex for as long as you want but not now okay?"
"No, I want to run now. I want to challenge that dumpster Alpha of yours"
"You cannot do that, Goldie. You will later in the future I promise but not now. We need to take a look at you to confirm you haven't turned into a dragon" I joked.
"Fine! Just let me out. Your body is so f*****g tight I need some air" she hissed out like an irritate grumpy granny.
Well, it was a given. If she wanted to come out, I was going to let her. Not because I couldn't tame her but because I knew how crazy she gets when she is angry. Her tantrums were crazier than that of people in the psych wards. She would destroy everything within her reach, growl until all her strength deserted her, and then leave my human body to endure the hit of her fall.
I angled at a corner of the bathroom, creating space for Goldie when she broke out. I let out a faint cry as my bones elongated and snapped as I shifted into a werewolf. Canines purged out of my mouth, and hair covered my feminine body. My skin ruptured, causing extreme pain. The transformation was dangerous and painful, and being a Sentinel made the whole ordeal worse, even though I was already used to it all, it never got better. My heart thundered against my chest and I fell to the ground with a thud. The last stage of my transformation.
My wolf stood in her glory, an uncanny but divine-looking wolf with white furs and double golden stripes at either of her sides. Her eyes were like burning embers of green lanterns in the middle of thick black orbs. Three short lines ran down her bottom ladies with red dots in between them. And beneath them were two black curved lines—the first line was like that of a warrior and underneath that was the shape of the moon. Her ears were like that of an elf, sticking up like an antenna.
A moment passed and all she did was move around in circles as though she was warming up for a fight. Shortly afterward, she was calmed and I shifted back to being Emory. I quickly put my clothes back on and I smoothened the back of my palms against the wrinkles on the Emerald blue suit pants I'd carefully selected this morning and flattened the point where my white and black pinstripe shirt tucked into the waistband of my pants. I fetched my powder pad and lip gloss from my bag and touched my make-up. I grabbed my coat and shawl from on top of the sink and after a last look in the mirror, I found my way back to the reception.
"I could reschedule if Gilbert …" I was talking to Anya but I was cut short by the creak of Gilbert's door opening. Lucas walked out of the office smiling at me.
"Is it my eyes or do you look prettier than before" he smiled, his eyes flickering through my body for the umpteenth time since he walked out of Gilbert's office door.
"I'm sure it is your eyes," I said, forcing myself to go crimson.
"Then I'd rather see you in this way only" he gushed.
"You're welcome" I responded.
"Mr. Gilbert will see you now," Anya said with a bright smile.
"Thank you" I smiled brightly too.
" You don't need to knock. Just go in," she added.
"See you soon," I said, waving at Lucas before walking into Gilbert's office. I carefully shut the door behind me. He was standing close to the window, with his back on me.
"Gilbert?" I called and he turned his head in my direction. Surprise flickered on his face—there was no mistaking it. His stormy blue eyes were full of confusion and his brows were arched questioningly. I thought he'd been informed of my coming. Why the sheer look of surprise on his face? I thought. God, it's been a few days since I saw him and now in front of him, I felt my knees grow weak. He looked the same though, just older—a few days older, to be precise and it seemed these few days apart from him had only made him finer.
"Emory" he breathed out my name in a husky whisper, sending chills down my spine. Lifting my head and straightening my shoulders, I ground my heels and watched as his eyes traced my face like he’d never seen it before. The split second he used in assessing me felt like an eternity. My palms were sweating profusely, my legs felt like jelly, and my heartbeats were so fast. What was he doing to me? Why did he l have this much effect on me? His voice was ten times huskier than I remembered. Deep, almost baritone. I continued to stare longingly at him and my knees continued to grow weak while in between my legs pooled-up.
"What are…how did?" He trailed off, shaking his head as he walked forward. "How have you been?" He asked, engulfing me in a warm hug. He smelled so divine that I couldn't help but bury my nose in the nook of his neck and shamelessly sniffed him.
"Please take a seat." He said after releasing me, gesturing to the coffee-brown leathered cushion in his extremely spacious office. I looked at the two chairs facing him, but I did not move. The office interior was detailed, but it was cavernous and cold, with stark, expensively appointed dark wood furnishings, a gorgeous french carpet, and floor-to-ceiling windows that overlooked other buildings. My head slowly tilted back to view the frescoed ceilings. It was an office fit for a king. And by the time I turned to look at him, his face had changed from surprise to something else. I seductively removed my coat and my shawl and put them on one of the visitor's chairs facing his surprisingly gold-carved chair befitting a king. I lost my hair which was initially packed in a ponytail on the top of my head. I turned to look at Gilbert and his look had morphed into something else.
His eyes were dangerously red, his lips slightly parted and his breath was shallow and deep.
At that moment, he emitted great s****l power. I felt a surge of electricity crackle between us. He held my gaze steadily for heart-stopping moments, and I didn't overlook the battle in his eyes. The emotions that wage for control. I trembled when he walked closer to me until we were inches apart. He was standing right in front of me with his heavenly coffee-like scent and I wanted to drink him all in. His smell was f*****g exhilarating —the mixture of money, wood, and c*m; Nobody else smelled like him.
For one unguarded moment, carnal lust glittered in his eyes then he lowered his lids and masked them. But I saw it, the potency of his desire for me. It heightened my perceptions and drenched me with want and lust. My skin tingled, itching to feel his touch; my lips grew numb, quivering to feel his lips on them; my throat became dry and it travailed to taste his juices.
