CHAPTER FIFTY TWO Emory’s POV “Why the hell would you allow someone to say something about your parent’s death and you would allow him to kill you too? Don’t you think that perhaps he knows something about their death or maybe had a hand in it? I mean, you didn’t exactly tell people about your parent’s death so if this person is saying this much about my parents, it definitely means he knows a thing or two about your parent’s death. Don’t let him get away with this, Rayne” my wolf Goldie said and I saw the truth in what she was saying. This was my territory. My security was one of the best in the area if not the best. Jamal would never be lenienteptible with the guards tonight seeing I was holding great personalities in our midst. Whoever this was, he wasn't here to play and he wasn’t just any person. My guts thought he was one of the nobles attending my part. Goldie was right, I must not let him kill me. I needed to find out who he was and how he knew about my parents and how they died. I felt the grasp of the man tighten around my neck and it was almost impossible for me to breathe but there was no way I was giving up just yet. I knew I would not pass out or die from how intense he was squeezing my neck and that was why I was really intent on seeing his face and I had no idea what to do to free myself from his grasp or even see his face. It was obvious I couldn't fight him in my human form but if it was my wolf Goldie, I knew she would be able to take him out. Or at the very least, hold him out for as long as possible. An idea popped into my head and I decided to try it. I stomped hard on the man’s leg with my heel and his hold on my neck slackened as he took a step back from the pain that shot up his leg but he didn’t release the hand he had over my mouth, suppressing my screams. And neither did his grasp on my neck soften. While he was halfly tending to his throbbing leg, I quickly used the opportunity to hit him in his balls, and his hands holding me immediately slackened, and took steps back as he coiled in pain from my attack. My throat felt parched from his tight hold on me and my vision was all blurry so it took me a moment to recover myself as he released me, making me cough while I was trying to catch my breath that was blocked from my nostrils and windpipe with his large hand. Once I got myself back I looked around but to my utmost surprise, the strange man was nowhere to be found. He was gone. I groaned out in anger that I had let him escape without getting to know who he was or at the very least, have a clue as to who he was or have a trail that could lead me to him if I decided to make some investigation. I stomped my feet on the ground when I realized I missed my opportunity to see his face. Taking in a deep sigh of partial relief, I smoothed my gown with the back of my palm and brushed my hair with my fingers before going back to the party to meet and greet my guests that had not gone back to their houses. I forced a smile to come on my face and cleared my throat before approaching the entrance. Once I got there, I met Stephanie and she was looking at me questioningly. "I was searching for you all over, where were you?" She asked me and I swallowed before answering, the memory of what just happened to me was still fresh in my brain. "Something happened but I can't say it here, let's usher the guests out first," I told her and she nodded in understanding once she saw my face and heard the worry in my voice; my voice was still hoarse from my struggle earlier with the stranger that somehow managed to get his way into my party and somehow managed to sneak right out after ruining the remaining days of my stay here in this pack until I would finally find him out and what he had to do with my parent’s death. "I think you should sit, you don't look fit to tell everyone goodbye. You should rest okay" Stephanie told me and placed her hands on my shoulder before leading me off to a chair where I would sit and rest for a while. After sitting me down, she went off to continue greeting everyone farewell while I just watched her and felt grateful for having her to help me out in this situation. I started to think about what happened to me earlier in the dark with the stranger and different thoughts run through my mind. I knew the enemy was back considering my encounter in the woods when I decided to run at dawn. I knew for a fact that the villain pack was here again but I didn't know who it was exactly. He had the same stench of the wolf that attacked me in the woods and the lingering smell in my former pack when my parents died. I never gave off any clue or hint about my full past so it was really confusing and scary how this unknown person knew who I was. But what was even more frightening than the fact that he knew me was the fact that he was threatening me that in a land I am pretty sure he knew was mine and in an event, he knew too that was mine. All this meant one thing; the villain pack that raided my original pack had been keeping tabs on me the whole time. My wolf, Goldie, wasn't settled too and she was whimpering in my head in fear too about what could happen. My whole experience with the unknown man was really scary and nerve-wracking and the fact that he made that statement gave me the suspicion that the enemy was quite close and probably plotting against me already. I couldn't risk my pack and the lives of the people in it. I had to do something quick to find out who it was that was trying to end me just like my parents. I was determined to take revenge and make my parent's murderers pay for what they did so I couldn’t fail or slack now by letting the enemy get to me. I was going to jump into action and get to the bottom of this, hopefully, I'd catch the culprit that snuck into my party and threatened me and make him explain what he meant by what he said to me but most importantly, make him regret being born. “Hello, Emory. How are you doing and how is your party going” a rich manly voice said and I pulled up my head to look at him. The person looking back down at me was an elderly who should be in his early fifties with the amount of gray hair he had on his face and head and the wrinkles that had formed all over his body. “Uh, hello?” I said, straining my eyes on his features as I scrutinized him. He didn’t at all look familiar but there was this aura that came with him that was commanding. He didn’t have even the slightest feature of a bad guy but one deep look into his eyes would leave you thinking otherwise. His face was split in a tight smile and even the extra effect on the corners of his eyes seemed forced and faked. “I’m very well thank you and the party is going well as you can see or is it by anyway short of your expectation or taste?” I asked with a fake smile of my own. “No, of course not. This is surely one of the best parties I’ve ever attended and with a man of my age, you would bet I have attended a lot of parties” he said. “What I meant to say was that you don’t look as cheerful as you did when the party started” he added “I must be of great interest to you if you have been paying so much attention to me if you noticed my change of mood,” I said “You can bet I am. You are one interesting female. I might have heard a thing or two about you before coming here and now that I am here, I can say proudly that the tabloids were not lying” the elderly man said and I giggled. “Oh, I’m flattered. Thank you for your kind compliments. I’m just tired that’s all” “Oh, I see. I should leave you to rest then” the man said, offering a curt smile. “until next time, Emory,” he said and I slumped back down on my chair. Oh, man… I looked at Gilbert and his irises were filled with warmth as he stared back at me. And for the first time since the last four years, I was grateful for him over something that wasn't s*x.
