CHAPTER 4: All That Glitters

1095 Words
Lilian’s POV Hurt her with the truth but never comfort her with a lie. That was my first impression when i walked into the office and saw Annie sitting on the bloated chair and playing with some office toys. She looked very beautiful, her hair was clipped on perfectly behind her and from the way she dressed, i already knew that Jackson was starting to control her. I did not want to over familiarize with her, my main aim was to let her know what she was getting into. I needed her to understand how deadly Jackson was and how the contract between them was pen and paper, it was a prison that might take everything from her, including her sanity. “What do you mean by that?” The look on her face was inquisitive. Her facial skin looks like it wanted to peel out and she wanted to know more. She was curious like a ct and i was going to fred on it, to my advantage. “I am sorry if i sounded very harsh but i am just looking out for you and telling you the truth. I am literally being a girl’s girl.” She stared at me dead in the eyes, her lips flickering from the side like she wanted to say more but she could not. “Okay…but is there should be nicer ways to put it right?” “Yes. But nobody does nice anymore.” I made rabbit ears hand movements at the word nice and gave her an evil smirk. “I am just being honest with you. Did you do your research on Jackson Rovers?” I set out my hands for her, pulling her up and suppressing her to stand firmly on her feet. “No, i did not it. I did not even know i was coming here till i came here.” She sounded concerned and scared, like i just ignited a concerned side of her. “Hmm, so you were sold off?” “By my uncle, yes.” I strode her out of the office and into the main segments of the company, letting her eyes wander through the business of Rovers Enterprise. “You see how big this place is?” I asked her as we went into the elevator, my hands swaying through the number of buttons on it that represented the number of floors in the company. I pressed number ten, the side where my office was located. “Yes, it is a very big company. I might even get lost in this place.” I laughed out loud, she was not wrong, i have gotten lost in this place a couple of times too. “I have been working here for over five years and i have gotten lost almost every week. Thank goodness for maps and routers that help us to navigate.” “Yeah…i would surely need maps everywhere i go.” “There are online maps, just download it on your phone and connect it to this place.” “Oh, i am not allowed to have any extraneous apps on my phone.” My mouth almost dropped to the floor. “What do you mean?” “Rule number sixteen. I was given a phone when i came into his house and i was instructed to only use it to contact him and play games.” I did not blink. It was as if i heard wrong. Was she being serious right now. “Are you for reals?” “Yes, i have like fifty rules i have to follow through during my stay.” “And your parents are okay with these?” Her eyes rolled down and her head bowed down too. She looked genuinely unhappy. “Does your parents know about these? Are they in support of this?” I had no genuine interest in her parents, i just needed to know her weakness. I loved attacking at the early stage and this was the best time to get under her skin and build her trust. I wanted her to have so much confidence in me that she can trust me and put out everything to me. This was my plan to get into her skin and possibly into Jackson’s skin too. I wanted him for myself and she felt like an obstruction. An easy target from my perspective. Asking her about her parents made her mood enter a dysphoria so that was her weak point, at least i was aware of it now. “I stay with my uncle.” “Mr Simon?” “Yes. How did you-“ I placed my index finger on her lips, signalling her to keep shut. “I know everything that goes on in this place.” “I have always been a thorn and prickle in my uncle’s flesh. He probably sent me here to get rid of me.” “I doubt that. Getting rid of someone definitely does not involve dumping them in the chambers of a billionaire.” She nodded and the elevator door dinged and opened up. “As i was saying, Jackson has everything he wants. He has this company, he has cars, brands and pretty much anything a male human would want. Why do you think he has no woman? Or even a wife?” She blinked a couple of times and scratched her chin, searching for an answer. “I really cannot answer that question.” I rolled my eyes on her and pulled her into my office. “You have to be smarted than this, Annie.” I shook her uneasingly and she was distorted. “You have to be very smart here. Everyone here is smart and they would use their smartness against you if you do not outsmart them.” She scratched her chin harder, her eye brows wrinkling and her jaws hardening. “So this place is more like a ground for survival of the fittest?” I nodded and gave her a welcome card. “Yes it is. What role are you taking up in this company?” “I am not sure yet, he did not tell me anything about it.” “Oh okay then, i might have role for you then, you know something between us.” “What role is that?” “Something good, that would not let peopelle trample you or and manipulate you. Something that would keep us very close.” “I want you to be my best friend.”
