Chapter 25: The Merge

497 Words
Chapter 25: The Merge They built the circle on the cliff’s edge. Stone by stone. Rune by rune. Lysandra traced the final sigil in moonblood and stepped back. “Once begun, it cannot be undone,” she warned softly. Ariya stood at the center, wind tugging at her cloak. Her eyes met Kael’s. “If I don’t come back…” He shook his head, fierce and unwavering. “You will.” “But if I change—” “Then I’ll love whoever you become.” No hesitation. No fear. She kissed him, slow and deep, and whispered: “Then let the fire begin.” --- The Ritual Begins The first chant was soft. The flames encircling the ring lit one by one—white, then gold, then red. The earth trembled. Ariya’s mark burned so hot she screamed. The sky split. And the Other appeared. --- The Confrontation She stepped from the fire like a twin born from flame—same eyes, same face, but with power that shimmered like heat on metal. “You’re ready,” the Other said. “I have to be,” Ariya whispered. They circled each other. The Other smiled. “I’m not your enemy.” “You almost destroyed me.” “I offered to save you. You were the one afraid of yourself.” Lightning cracked overhead. “I’m not afraid anymore,” Ariya said, stepping forward. She reached out— And touched her own hand. --- The Merge It wasn’t pain. It was everything. Ariya saw memories not her own—wars waged in other timelines, futures burned before they began, love lost to flame and fury. She saw herself crowned in gold and blood. She saw herself erased. And through it all—Kael’s voice echoed. > “I love you. No matter the fire.” Her heart shattered. Then mended. And she let go. Of fear. Of guilt. Of control. --- Rebirth A flash of light erupted from the cliff. Every flame died. Every rune vanished. And when the wind cleared— She stood alone. Changed. Her hair now streaked with gold. Her mark glowing with both silver and red. The Other was gone. But not lost. > They were one. --- Kael Runs to Her He broke through the stunned circle, arms out, heart thundering. She turned. And smiled. “Kael.” He froze. It was her. And more. He kissed her before words could ruin it. And the bond between them surged with a strength neither had ever known. --- Lysandra Weeps From the edge of the circle, Lysandra wiped her eyes. “It’s done,” she whispered. But her heart whispered something else: > It has only begun. --- Far Away – A Crown Breaks In the shadow lands, the last of Mairead’s supporters dropped to their knees as fire split the skies. The New Queen had risen. And the world would never be the same again. --- 🌒 END OF CHAPTER 25
