My obsession had clouded my judgment, causing me to overlook the true motives of the wealthy man. Thankfully, I had the foresight to keep someone sharp and perceptive by my side. As Lucas stormed out of the room, the others began to rise, preparing to leave. I signaled them to sit back down. “I didn’t dismiss anyone,” I declared firmly, my gaze locking with Edison’s, who was glaring at me with barely contained rage.
