Chapter 1 strange present, new reality

1645 Words
Hello there, my name is Ryan Warden. As for why I am writing this... well, it's a long story. I was living life as a regular veteran, you know the usual stuff, especially now that my body feels like I was in my late 50's despite being 31 years old, but anywho, One day, when I suddenly received a package from my parents, THAT was when my life changed completely Something that was discovered later on that night at least~ What I received from my parents was a strange rusted blade that was as long as my forearm. It was greatly degraded by age, so it was hard to see what it really looked like. In the letter, it was said that this was a family heirloom that aged back to the 1500s, which made me look back at the blade in wonder. I already ordered dinner for myself since I am living alone while feeling lazy to cook for myself, thanks to my ex-girlfriend trying to come back to me. After the fact that she slept with multiple men while I was deployed! Yeah, I'd rather not have that kind of woman. So I went to my workshop to see what I can do for the heirloom. I doubled as a blacksmith. My hobby turned into a source of money thanks to E*sy~ But regardless, from grinding away the rust, smoothing it out, polishing it, then sharpening it, I found myself entranced by the blade for one good reason it was made of something harder than tungsten steel! I was sure of it since my equipment used Tungsten steel to make my work easier! I was somewhat intrigued by this. I wanted to see it in its completed form since the sheathe was ruined already. I made another using the rest of my titanium plates for it. By the time it was finished, it was already late into the night! But I didn't care. The blade was gorgeous, and from what it looked like, this blade might've originated from japan while the handguard was missing, and the grip was beyond saving. It still looked like a kodachi. Using some of my spares, the hilt looked like cherry blossoms wrapped around the grip while the sword guard looked like spider lilies. I was quite satisfied with the work I had done. I called it a night with the blade in tow and sheathed before having my dinner, which was Pizza~. Once I was done, I had more than a few rounds of coke and rum. Only to lean back drunk on my couch, with the sheathed blade against my chest since I hugged it. It was an old habit as sometimes guns are too noisy and messy at times, the ol' blade to the neck or back from the shadows worked faster and left more time to hide and take out more people without any hassles. Yes, I needed to do dirty work at times, but thanks to my efforts, many of my brothers and sisters in arms could return home. This made me proud, but upon receiving an early retirement. this made me miss that honor and those glorious mome- Catching myself wallowing in more self misery and remembering the dangers I had to face to achieve that. I laughed mockingly at myself. Yeah, like an injured and halfway crippled veteran can keep up with such things. A low chuckle escaped my lips as I calmed down while sliding my hand along the side of this oddly soothing blade before completely relaxing, and thanks to my drunken state of mind, I didn't notice the little cut my thumb received from it. -------- Well, that's how I remember it at least~ Now I just found myself wearing some strange clothes in the middle of nowhere with that same blade in hand with something like a blue box with words written in it! > Nice title, but where the f**k am I, and what the hell is this? > A lord? seriously? why don't you blow it out of your ass AFTER answering my question earlier!? It showed me three people, but even then, I wanted some answers! But as if to punish me for ignoring the messages this happened next. > Wha- AR- I grit my teeth NEARLY, biting off my own tongue in the process, but it helped keep me quiet as I fell face-first to the ground trying to resist the pain my skin and flesh were rippling, making me feel every bit of this painful change! I was forced to roll onto my back before I started clawing my chest as my insides felt so unbearable that It might've been better to rip it out as all of my muscles strained and shifted with my bones! With blood covering my lips and chin from what I did earlier, I tried focusing on other things, gotta keep thinking, gotta keep my mind elsewhere, or I might end up killing myself from this! This went on for an hour before more messages popped up. Which somewhat helped me distract myself from the pain that was beginning to subside. > These were the options it showed me. >Manage Tools >Alchemy >Buy Items >Sell Items >Equipment >>Upgrade >>Recycle I couldn't even say anything at this point until the next blue screen popped up > Title: None Name Raian Tengoku Stamina 50 Offense 5 Defense 5 Taijutsu Level 1 additional 5% damage done by Martial arts per level Grapple Hook Level 1 additional one meter per level (Base range 10 meters) Shuriken throwing Level, 1 additional 5% damage, done by Shuriken per level Kunai mastery Level, 1 additional 5% damage, done by kunai per level Kenjutsu Level 1 additional 5% damage done by sword per level Alchemy Level 1 additional 5% potency of ingredients per level Zankoku (Locked) Fukurou (Locked) Mikiri (Locked) Ninpo (Locked) Seeing this, I grew somewhat excited and managed to get back to my feet. Well, while staggering a few times, this was like one of the games my nephew loved playing but still, I couldn't help but mention it. That's a lot of stuff locked there! > Uh...okay? Nothing else? No explanation as to why I am here or that other s**t? Those Webnovels Lied to me!!! In the midst of my tantrum, something else popped up. >>First task: complete three missions at least to B rank>There is no time limit for any tasks>Reward: return to your world with your body as is>Failure: Death or eternally trapped in this world<< So why wouldn't I complete the mission? But how do I ge- Upon thinking about it, the blue screen popped up again then showed the available missions. While I'd love to pick one, there was only one problem I needed to understand how things worked. Where are the tools that I can use? But in the end, it told me nothing when I returned my thoughts to the 'manage tools' pop-up. That was when it showed me what can be done. There were twelve slots, one for the Grapple hook, three for my usable items, one for my sword. The six were for the future equipment I can use: gauntlets, helmet, chest armor, greaves, pauldrons, and accessory. The last was currently locked. So whatever for now. The first mission I have chosen was related to what was nearest to me. It was related to a religious group that wanted to collect more people to follow the great Amrita. The client was a Daimyo that wanted this to stop as this was his territory, and this group was going out of control! My mission is to clear the area of any people from the Kihan group. The reward will be according to how many are 'taken care of' and not seen when I do this. Base reward 500 Ryo. Per Kihan personnel dealt with 55 Ryo. Remain unseen, which leaves no civilian panicking to see the aftermath additional 200 Ryo. I stretched my body as much as possible to test my flexibility, and how much more it can handle compared to my old body one thing was for sure I could give the most flexible man a run for his money~ But testing it in battle was another thing. Well then, Let's see how much this body can handle~.
