I slammed the gas pedal. The engine roared, and the tires screamed.
City lights blurred around me, stretching into streaks of white and gold as I shot down the road.
My mind was all over the place. I was scared, unsure, and desperate to reach her.
Mason's voice kept echoing in my head. "If you really care, go get her. If she stays, that's it. Forever or nothing. Make your choice."
It wasn't permission. It was a dare. A line in the sand.
But I'd already made my choice. I chose her. Over everything. Over myself.
Dad tried to stop me. But Mom didn't. She just grabbed his arm and held him back.
I truly believed if she stayed, they'd come around. They always did.
