Everyone was stunned.
Their expressions darkened immediately.
The Gomez family had been out of money for years, relying entirely on Sarah to support them.
Now Sarah not only wanted a divorce but also planned to settle the accounts.
How could the Gomez family possibly come up with ten million dollars?
Lily erupted in anger. "Sarah, what do you mean by this? You've been married to my brother for a year. If it weren't for him, you'd have starved on the streets long ago. You've been eating our food, using our resources, and you're upset about spending just a bit of your own money? Not only are you ungrateful, but now you want to settle accounts with us? How dare you!"
Sarah sneered. This shameless family truly believed that her kindness was their entitlement.
Rachel grew anxious, worried that Sarah might actually demand repayment.
"What are you saying? I'm your mother-in-law, and Nathan is your husband. Haven't we treated you well this past year? Don't you know that? What's yours is the Gomez family's. Why are you being so calculating? I'll decide. This matter ends here. If you dare stir up trouble over this in the future, don't blame me for being harsh!"
Sarah frowned. "Let it go?"
Rachel nodded. "What? Is there a problem? No matter what, you're part of the Gomez family. If word gets out about this, how do you think people will laugh at our family? As a member of the Gomez family, you should prioritize our reputation in everything. If you keep stirring things up, I'll invoke the family rules against you right now!"
Sarah couldn't help but laugh.
If today's events hadn't happened, she might never have seen the true faces of these people.
She looked at Rachel coldly. "Did you forget what I just said?"
Everyone frowned. Sarah continued, "What I said was, I'm divorcing Nathan! Your family rules have no hold on me! And one more thing..."
Her tone turned icy as she said, "These past few years, your treatments relied entirely on me paying for world-renowned doctors. Once a month, with each session costing over a million dollars! Shouldn't we settle that bill as well?"
Rachel was stunned, trembling with anger as she pointed at Sarah. "You… you!"
Sarah said calmly, "Don't get too worked up. Make sure to take care of your health!"
Rachel thought Sarah was showing concern, and her anger subsided a little.
However, Sarah's next words made Rachel's expression change instantly, and she almost collapsed.
Sarah said, "From now on, I won't be paying for your treatments anymore. If anything happens to you, I'm not responsible for the consequences!"
Rachel started coughing violently, gasping for air.
Nathan and Lily looked worried and quickly stepped forward to support Rachel.
Nathan asked anxiously, "Mom, are you okay?"
Lily, enraged, stepped forward and slapped Sarah across the face, glaring at her. "Look at what you've done to Mom!"
Sarah's eyes turned icy as she stared coldly at Lily.
Lily, oblivious to the gravity of the situation, snapped, "What are you staring at? You're refusing to get my mom treated? How heartless can you be? Let me teach you a lesson!"
Lily raised her hand to strike again, but Sarah wasn't about to let it happen.
Sarah slapped Lily back with a forceful strike.
The crisp sound echoed sharply.
Having grown up in a military camp, Sarah's strength was not something Lily could withstand.
Lily collapsed onto the ground, with five distinct finger marks now visible on her cheek.
"Sarah, how dare you hit me?"
Lily was furious. She had never imagined that Sarah, who had always been the target of their bullying, would dare to fight back today!
"I'll kill you!"
Lily got up and charged at Sarah, but Nathan grabbed her just in time.
Lily frowned in confusion. "Nathan, what are you doing? Don't stop me. I'm going to teach Sarah a lesson today!"
Nathan scolded her coldly, "That's enough. Look at yourself—what do you look like right now?"
Lily immediately shut her mouth, not daring to speak further.
Nathan turned to Sarah, speaking indifferently, "Forget about the divorce. I'm not divorcing you! You can give up on that idea!"
Sarah sneered. "Whether we get divorced or not isn't up to you!"
Nearby, Victoria frowned as she heard Nathan's words.
She glared at Nathan, her face full of displeasure, and asked, "What do you mean by that?"
Although Victoria came from a military background and didn't care much about trivial matters, without a royal decree, the idea of sharing a husband with Sarah still made her feel uneasy.
If Nathan could divorce Sarah, that would be ideal.
Nathan's expression changed, and just as he was about to explain, Sarah spoke up first, "General Harper, I suppose you don't know yet, but the Gomez family has been broke for a while! As you can see, even the money for his mother's treatment had to come from me! If he divorces me, they probably won't even have the money to pay for your wedding!"
"What did you say?"
Victoria was stunned, her face full of disbelief.
Had the Gomez family really fallen to such a state?
Victoria turned to Nathan and asked, "Is what she said true?"
Nathan hesitated for a moment before gritting his teeth and nodding. "Yes, it's true."
"So, the part about divorcing Sarah after marrying me—was that a lie too?" Victoria's eyes widened as she glared at Nathan. No one had ever dared to deceive her like this.
"Tomorrow, I'll bring my family from the Sullivan side and settle the accounts. Every penny I've spent on your family this past year—I'll get it all back. Just you wait."
Sarah didn't want to spend another moment with these people. With that, she turned and left.
At that moment, Rachel started coughing violently again.
Nathan quickly stepped forward. "Mom, are you okay?"
Rachel shook her head. "I'm fine!"
She looked at Victoria, smiled, and said, "Victoria, come here. I want to talk to you."
Victoria glanced at Rachel with a trace of disdain in her eyes, but she quickly masked it and walked over with a smile.
Rachel held her hand affectionately and said, "Victoria, you and Nathan love each other, and you're both national treasures. We'd never let you down! Don't worry, I won't let Sarah share Nathan with you. Once we've gotten all of Sarah's money, I'll have Nathan divorce her and give you the answer you deserve!"
"I understand."
Victoria nodded, and Nathan took the opportunity to pull her into his arms. "Don't worry. I'll never let you suffer."
"That's more like it!"
Victoria smiled, satisfied.
Meanwhile, all of this had been within Sarah's expectations. She knew that with the King's decree in place, the divorce wouldn't be straightforward.
However, that didn't mean Sarah would do nothing.
At that moment, Sarah was driving a luxury car toward the Royal Palace.
She was going to request the King to issue a decree for her divorce from Nathan.
