Looking for Her

1360 Words
Immediately after finding out that Alexander was in the game, he left the barn and looked for the exiled villain’s residence. To prove that this was a game, Alexander has to see her himself. If he reincarnated in the game world in a timeline where the game ends, there’s only one place where he could find her, and that’s her residence. After the farmer gave him invaluable intel, Alexander glanced around his surroundings and couldn’t help but feel different. The air is nicer and fresher compared to the urban cities with their suffocating atmosphere and pollution. And the people passing by giving him inquisitive looks at his appearance and clothes is somehow unsettling. Alexander didn't want to stand out, because their gazes were kind of distracting to the point he wanted to find the source of their curious look. He looked down and checked his clothes and compared them to the passerby. There, he realized why they were looking at him like that. It was because of his clothes, specifically, his modern school uniform which consists of a white blazer, blue jeans, a black shirt under a gray turtleneck, and navy blue shoes. According to the game's background, the game's setting is similar to the late nineteenth or early twentieth century, so the reason why they were giving off strange looks was that his clothing was just out of this era. That's not the only problem. The game's setting is not based on something similar to our real world, specifically the geography of the map. It was different from Earth. This means Alexander just got reincarnated in a completely another world. The good thing however is that Alexander could understand their language, so it's a plus point as he won't have trouble communicating, especially when he's about to meet the villainess of the story. As a newcomer to this world, Alexander approached one of the passersby to ask. The men he approached instinctively took a step backward, causing Alexander to tilt his head to the side with his eyes narrowing. “Uhm…sir, can I bother you for a moment?” Alexander said with a friendly tone. “What do you want?” the man asked back. “I’m at a loss and would like to ask for directions. Do you know which road leads to Natalie Belfast's residence?” “That exiled witch? Why are you looking for her?” the man asked suspiciously. Alexander frowned. Is the reputation of villainess so ruined to the point where ordinary people hate her? "No, I wasn't particularly looking for her. It's just that her residence is the only landmark I can remember. If you could help me with this, then I'd be grateful." “Ah...is that so? Alright then. Follow the road until you reach the end.” The man pointed in the direction and walked away without another word. "Thank you!" Alexander shouted once more before turning away and following the man’s directions. *** In a city district, Alexander finally arrived at the village's square. It was fairly crowded with people doing their daily chores. Most of them noticed his bizarre outfit and became the center of attention. Alexander could only lower his head in embarrassment. He's not used to getting this much attention in general and he doesn't know how he should react. Thankfully for him, someone stopped by his side. "Are you alright? This place can be intimidating for newcomers," a woman said. Alexander turned his head and met the woman's gaze. "Is that so? I can see that" Alexander let out a forced chuckle. "Where are you from, mister? You seemed to be quite lost here." The woman looked at Alexander with genuine concern. "I'm from the United Sta..." Alexander stopped his mouth from completing that sentence. It would be meaningless to tell her where he came from since the place where he originally lived didn't exist in this world. So, he evaded it. "Well, I don't know, I'm at a loss too. But I believe I remember something of an estate around here in this village...I think it's owned by Natalie Belfast," "Ah...I see...I see...It must've been hard for you...how can I help?" the lady offered Alexander a small smile as she tilted her head. "Well, the direction for Natalie Belfast's estate. It's the last place I can remember...can you tell me which road leads to it?" Alexander requested. "Thanks!" Alexander smiled politely at the lady and began speaking. "If you take this road, you'll see an intersection, turn right until you see a big mansion. That's where Natalie's estate is located." "Thank you!" Alexander called out as he jogged up to the road and began walking down it. His pace picked up after a few minutes of brisk walking until the mansion was in his view. "It's huge!" Alexander let out an astonished gasp as his eyes scanned the contours of the mansion. There were a lot of windows and lights shining brightly in the mansion, indicating that it's indeed very spacious. However, even from afar, the mansion didn't seem welcoming at all; it just gave off cold vibes with the way it was surrounded by withered grass, rotting woods, and empty streets. Even in the middle of this gloomy atmosphere, a light breeze still managed to blow the leaves around, causing them to move and creating a soft rustling sound. "So this is where the villainess is currently living huh? The area is just depressing," Alexander commented as he looked around only to see no people walking by the street. A few seconds later, the wind picked up again and blew the fallen leaves into his face. He blinked, trying to remove the fallen leaf from his eyes. "Stupid leaf..." Alexander cursed as his eyes followed the leaf floating across the street. After some time, the leaf stopped and settled near a bulletin board "Huh? What the...?" "Hmm, that's interesting..?" Alexander walked over to it without hesitation and took a closer glance at it. On the front, there was a paper poster glued on it written in a language he had never seen in his entire life. Yet slowly after, Alexander found something off. The indecipherable letters began moving and transforming into an English alphabet. He was now able to read its contents like magic and started perusing it. [Looking for a butler. Salary 1,000 florins per month, can stay inside the mansion. If you're interested, knock on the door.] Alexander hummed in thought. He remembered the farmer saying that Natalie is looking for a butler but no one dared to take the offer because of her history of being a cruel human being. Well, as a player of the game, he can vouch for that. But...just because someone stumbled and lost their way doesn't mean they don't deserve a second chance. And all the more reason to take the offer is that Alexander doesn't have a place to stay and doesn't have money. Well, technically he has money but he's sure it won't work here. This is a perfect opportunity as he can learn more about the villainess not just written or coded in-game but in real life. Without further ado, Alexander walked towards the entrance of the mansion with determination and raised his hand to knock. But before his hand could land over the door's surface, it immediately opened. Behind it was a woman who could only be Natalie. "What...do...you want?" she asked but her voice was so low that Alexander had to lean over to understand her. "Uhm...can you repeat that?" "I asked, what do you want?" she repeated. "Well, I just saw the poster outside saying you're hiring a butler...I'd like to take my chances. Can I apply?" The girl looked up at her, allowing Alexander to see her face. Just then, Alexander subconsciously heaved a sigh of admiration. She was too damn beautiful. A platinum-colored hair, slender arms and legs, and a doll-like face. She's definitely the villain of the otome game, Natalie Belfast. Alexander cleared his throat, snapping himself out of his stupor, and continued speaking, "My name is Alexander West, I would like to apply for a job,"
