My hands impulsively flew up to cover my ears. The loud bang of metal had made my ears numb for a second. Then there was an ear-splitting noise like tinnitus intensified. My vision blurred accordingly. Closing my eyes, I kneeled down on the floor.
I couldn’t tell how much time had passed.
“Karen,” I heard Victor’s voice, all dampened. His arms came around me as I struggled to get up on my feet. “Are you okay?”
The ringing in my ears had decreased. “Yeah, I’m fine,” My throat was dry. Taking a deep breath, I ignited the flames in my palm and took a close look at Victor. “What about you and others?”
