CHAPTER 14 - CORALINE'S POV

1632 Words
When I saw Merin making the bed, I blushed a little and quickly rushed over to the clothes my mate had prepared for me, but I frowned in frustration after only a few seconds. Everything was silk and revealing, with jewels and golden patterns sewn on. There was nothing modest or casual. Everything here was designed to stand out. "Merin please go to my old bedroom and bring me some of my clothing." Merin placed a pillow on the bed and glanced at the divider where Derick was standing behind dressing. "Um, Princess… sorry, Luna," She corrected again, "King Derick ordered that I donate all your old clothes." "What?" I stood up, clutching the towel tightly and marched around the divider to find Derick doing up his pants, "Who said you could get rid of my stuff?!" He didn't even seem fazed by my anger, and continued to dress with ease, which only angered me more. "Honey, you're a Queen now, and as such, you need to set the standards for fashion and jewelry, amongst other things, and I couldn't very well leave you in those rags." ''My clothes weren't rags!" "Stop being a child," He finally looked at me, his belt tight in his grasp, "You have new clothes, it's not the end of the world, just go pick something out." "Those clothes are to revealing!" I complained as he put his belt on. He just smiled at me, "Honey, my country has a warmer climate than you're used to. You will welcome the more revealing clothing. Until then, if you get cold, just wear a cloak. Now, hurry up and dress, we have breakfast soon." I glared at him, regret at accepting an Alpha flowing through me, "You Alpha's are all the same. You're all control freaks!" I angrily marched back over to the clothes and rummaged around until I found something acceptable and pulled it on. Derick was sitting on the bed pulling on his boots as I sat down to do my hair, but he quickly looked over to me when I asked for my usual braid. "No, for Goddess sake, Cora. Queen, remember. Merin, do something nice with her hair." "Yes sir." The traitor said excitedly, glad to have an excuse to do something more elaborate. "It's just a waste of time. I'll go to training after breakfast anyway." "No you won't," He argued again, and I exhaled, "From here on out, you'll only train with me or a trainer I assign once we're home, and besides, you're getting married tomorrow, go relax. Merin, take her to one of your spa's, and make sure she indulges in everything. I will give Nolan enough gold for the both of you to have a nice morning, and then after lunch, come find me, and we'll go for a run." "Yes sir." "Fine, but I'd rather be training." I pouted and sat back. "Alpha, be patient with her," Merin spoke up, "She never lets herself have fun or be spoiled." "Well, she'll just have to get used to it." He smiled at me in the mirror while I pulled up the front of my dress, that was showing to much of my cleavage for my liking, "Also, contact your mate to join us after breakfast to reject Damien's pack." Merin looked a little nervous but nodded, "Yes sir." She said again and continued putting my hair into a fish-braided bun. Once Derick and Merin decided I was presentable enough, I was pulled into Derick's arm, and together we walked to the dining hall again. This time however, I noticed more eyes then usual on me, and I few of them men couldn't look away, until they caught Derick's threatening gaze. My mate pulled out the chair for me, and I sat down, hoping to focus on the food and not the eyes still lingering on me. "Why are you dressed like this?" Damien asked through gritted teeth, his voice low, but the other Kings still heard him and quickly sparked up conversations. "Is there an issue, Damien?" Derick asked, as he sat down and placed his arm over my shoulders. To everyone else, it looked like a protective stance, but I knew better. He was reminding the King who I now belonged to. "I understand she is now your mate, but she is still my daughter, and I won't have her dressed like a sl.." Derick slammed his hand on the table and Damien fell silent. "Be very careful with your next words," My mate warned him, "Insulting my mate is insulting me, and you must remember from the war how I deal with insults." "It wasn't my intention to insult her, but as her father, I have every right to teach her morals." "Morals?" I asked in disgust, "Like f*cking some wh*re, knocking her up with a b*stard and driving your mate to her death," I said viciously, "Those morals? If so, you go ahead and keep them. I'll make my own." Damien's eyes flashed black with rage, but King Palmor just laughed. "Damien, let it go. She's not a little girl anymore," He said, his tone playful. "Just look at her, she's old enough to be mated tomorrow. You can't keep her a little girl forever. Let us just enjoy our breakfast." "Actually, before that, Cora and the others should break the pack bond," Derick said as he lifted a glass of juice and took a sip, before looking over his shoulder, "Merin, you and your mate come here." I watched at Lathan and Merin walked over, and I suddenly felt nervous. The pack had been the only thing I had to hold onto over the years of loneliness and abuse, and now it was going to be severed. As if sensing my distress. My mate slipped his fingers through mine and held my hand tightly. Damien looked annoyed, probably because my mate was giving orders in his kingdom again, but that thought made me smile. "Proceed." Derick waved his free hand at Merin and Lathan." "I Merin Harlow, renounce King Damien as my King and Alpha, and sever all ties with the Shadow pack." She cringed in pain and Lathan quickly held her, keeping her on her feet. I made a gesture to get up and help too, but Derick's hand tightened, and he shook his head, so I sat back again. "I Lathan Harlow renounce King Damien as my King and sever all ties with the Shadow pack." Lathan also cringed in pain and touched his heart as it raced. All eyes turned to me and I was very aware that the room had gone silent. "You don't have to," Derick told me, "You alliance will automatically switch to me once I mark you, you don't have to go through the pain of breaking from your Alpha." "He's never been my Alpha." I said with confidence, and I saw a flash of rage and I think, regret in Damien's eyes, "I Princess Coraline gladly renounce King Damien as my King and Alpha, and sever all ties with the Shadow pack." The pain was instant and Derick quickly wrapped his arms around me. "It's okay. It's not permanent," He said, and kissed my cheek. "I feel... It's feels hollow," I admitted as Noah stood up and started pouring three drinks, "And… all the voices are gone." I could no longer hear the constant humming of the pack in my mind, and I felt very alone. No wonder rogues went mad. Derick smiled at me, "Don't worry. Once you're connected to my pack, you'll hear everyone again, though once you're marked, you won't just hear the royal pack, you'll hear all packs, and that might be a little overwhelming, but don't worry," He added, as he cut his finger and put a few drops of blood into each cup Noah placed in front of him, "I'll teach you to push it into the background so it's just a gentle humming." I nodded and smiled as he passed me a cut. "Drink, and our connection will be completed, and you will belong to me and my kingdom." I drank without hesitation, but Noah gasped and pointed at me, "Her eyes are glowing." I guess this wasn't normal because every King at the table, Derick included gasped in surprise, as my mate took my face in his hands, looking into my eyes in shock before he let go. "What was that?" Ryker asked our father, whose heart was racing. "Nothing, just a normal reaction for a royal breaking ties with her family," He answered, but I knew he was lying. "Can you hear me?" Derick linked me and I smiled in excitement. "You linked me!" I said out loud and a few of the men at the table laughed. "Welcome to my pack. All of you." He added to Merin and Lathan, who bowed and went to sit back down for breakfast. We ate in peace after that, Derick, always confident and relaxed, making small talk with the Kings, while I ate, but I kept seeing Damien glancing at me during the meal, looking nervous and a little bitter, but whenever I looked up, he'd quickly lower his gaze. Frustrating me. "What is his issue?" Clara growled, "He never wanted us, he can't act all wounded and regretful know, the b*stard." "Just ignore him." I said as I stole a piece of bacon from Noah's plate because there was no more on the communal plate in the center of the table, and when he growled at me playfully I just smiled, "I'm your Luna now, I'm allowed." He just laughed and snatched it out of my hand and quickly ate it, as Derick shook his head at us to behave.
