CHAPTER ONE

NICHOLE'S P.O.V I stood at my parents just made tomb with tears in my eyes. Everyone had left and only me remained. I couldn't help but cry more as it dawned on me that I was going to be all alone. My parents were never going to be there for me anymore because they were dead. Gone for good..... Never coming back. They died too soon. They were never going to see me get married, never going to meet children — their grandchildren like they have always dreamed of. I was an only child just like both my parents had been. So I had no relatives whatsoever. I recalled all the good and bad memories I had with them. Memories that I would cherish forever. “Why?”, I muttered sobbing. “Why did you leave me alone? ”. I could recall the day they died like it was happened yesterday. ★★★★FLASHBACK★★★★ It was on their 30th anniversary and they were both going on a date. Something they did every year they've been together. They promised not to stay out late and bring some gifts for me when they were coming back. They went out hail and hearty with smiles on their faces. 30 minutes later, I got a call that they had been involved in a car crash. I burst into tears while rushing to get to the destination. On getting there, I saw the policemen at the venue. Blue and red lights kept flashing on and off. I went to meet one the policemen to ask of my parents whereabouts as the place was already labeled with a restriction. The policeman led me to my parents damaged car and asked me to identify the bodies on the floor. I screamed at the sight, wailing loudly. It felt like a dream to me. One hour my parents were alive, the next they were dead. The police gave a report that it was issue of failed brake. I didn't believe them. I told them the car was fine before they left home and that my dad double checked the engines to see if they were working properly before taking it out. So there was no way I was going to believe it was a failed brake. I asked them to conduct a thorough investigation. What confirmed my suspicions was that a few days later, I went to the police station and asked to see the CCTV footage, but it wasn't released to me. They gave excuses that there was nothing special in the video and that it was what they had suspected— A failed brake. All attempt to watch the video failed. And the case ended being dismissed. ★★★★ FLASH BACK ENDS ★★★★ I knew someone was behind it and they weren't just ordinary. They were someone powerful. Someone with great influence. I wiped the tears from my eyes and found a determination in the pain. I was going to find my parent's killer. And when I do, I will make them pay. I walked away with a silent promise of revenge. ★★★★★ THREE YEARS LATER★★★★★ NICHOLE'S P.O.V It's been three years since my parents died and I have been left with the responsibility of managing their business. A small restaurant located in the suburb areas of Los Angeles. I should have been glad that my parents business was mine but no I wasn't. I wasn't happy because the restaurant was in lots of debts. My parents borrowed lots of money and didn't pay back before their death. And I was left with responsibility of paying back the debt or the business will crumble. Worst case? The Loan sharks they borrowed from, has been pestering me since the time my parents died. I told them to give me three years to pay them back since the debt was too much with lots of interest. I wonder what my parents were thinking borrowing money from those people when they knew about how outrageous the interest rate were. How can you borrow money from an organization knowing that the interest rate per year is 40%? That's stupid. I'm not saying my parents were stupid but God!!!.... How could they think of even doing that? Now I'm the one left with the problem, left with how to pay back or my parents legacy will go down the pit. I was giving orders to my workers, when my phone rang and I excused myself to take the call. I saw the caller ID and my heart started beating fast— It was the Loan shark boss, Mr Rodriguez. I swiped right to pick up the call. “Hello!”, I said timidly. “Do you remember our agreement? ”, the deep voice on the other side said. “It's already three years and you haven't still paid the loan back”. I took a deep breath before speaking. “I know that it's three years already but can you give me some more time. You see I've been gathering the money but it's not anywhere close to the amount. Just give me a few months and I would pay everything back. I swear on my dead parent's grave”, I told the man desperation creeping inside my voice. “I can't give you a few months!! ”, the man barked angrily. “You have only one week to give me my money or else hand over the restaurant to me”, he added and hung up. Tears started streaming down my face and I knelt down and face palmed myself sobbing. ‘Oh God! What do I do?’
