Two months at The Elite Nightclub have been a whirlwind of pain and fleeting pleasure. Felicia and Victoria have made life a living nightmare, spreading vicious rumors that I can’t even begin to trace . It feels like there’s a shadow lurking around every corner , and I’m beginning to wonder just how far their influence reaches. Little did I know , tonight would unravel secrets that could change everything. My father’s diagnosis of kidney failure has left me feeling desperate. When I went to the hospital that day, I realized I was destined for nothing but hardship. “Hello, Dr. Allison”, I said. “Good day, Miss Sofia. It’s been a while”, he replied. “Yes, I only come around on weekends, you’re usually busy”. “That’s correct, Miss Sofia”. “I finally have your father’s results, and there’s a serious issue”. “A serious issue?” I asked. “How serious,Doctor?” “Your father has kidney failure and he needs a transplant as soon as possible “. “Kidney failure? Oh my God, this is too much . Wait, Doctor , you said he needs a kidney transplant. How much will it cost?” “We’re looking at $12,000 “Ah, jeez! That’s a lot of money . Where am I supposed to get that?” “Well, Miss Sofia, I sincerely don’t know what to say , but all I can offer is that God will come through for you. However, you need to gather the money as soon as possible because your father’s health is deteriorating every day”. I left the hospital with pain in my heart, knowing that it was time to double my efforts. That’s why I’ve been working double shift , pushing myself to the brink . One night at work , overwhelmed by it all , I slipped away to the restroom to collect myself , tears streaming down my face as I stared into the mirror . Suddenly, a man passed by the female restroom, a peculiar sight that snapped me back to reality. Wiping away my tears , I stepped out , and before I knew it , someone grabbed my waist , pulling me close. “I can help you solve your problem “, he whispered. Anger bubbled up inside me , but his words caught me off guard . “Sir , please let go of my waist “, I said as calmly as I could manage. He released me immediately, introducing himself with an unsettling confidence. “My name is Kelvin Smith”. “I’m Sofia,”I replied, my voice still shaky with the weight of unshed tears. “I overheard you in the restroom . How much do you need for your dad’s kidney transplant?” “$12,000”, I whispered, hoping against hope . “Just $12,000?” he said , chukling . “I thought it was something enormous. Well ,beauty ,”he said , his hand brushing my hair behind my ear , inching toward my cleavage. His touch made me uncomfortable, but desperation held my tongue. “I can give you the money , “he continued, but you’ll have to give me something in return”. “What do you want ?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. “Your body , for my money , “he replied, a twisted smile on his lips. I felt my world shatter . “Do I look like a prostitute to you ? look around , there are a lot of strippers here , if you want one , go pick one” I snapped, anger surging through me .” Thank you, but I’ll pass”. I turned on my heel and stormed back to work , not waiting for his response. As I rushed back , I accidentally stepped on Felicia . “Are you blind ?” she sneered. “I’m sorry , it was an accident”. “And what are you doing with those eyes if you can’t see?” “I said I’m sorry”, I pleaded. “Rubbish. I don’t know why you got hired here , but your days here are numbered”. Her words echoed in my mind . What did she mean by that ? I needed answers, so I approached John , the head bartender. “Hey ,John ,can we talk?” “Sure, what’s up ?” “Did Felicia say anything about me to you ?” “No , she didn’t . Why do you ask ?” “She’s been acting strangely, and I can’t figure out why”. “That’s just Felicia . She’s probably having a bad day”. “Really?” “Yeah, she’ll come around”. But the unease wouldn’t leave me . A few days later , I was responsible for handling cash at the end of the shift . I counted the day’s earnings and handed them over to John for the final tally . Mr. Thompson, the owner, was around it was Friday ,his usual visit . After John submitted the calculations, Mr.Thompson noticed a discrepancy and summoned John . “Sir, I counted the money before bringing it to your office”,John said , visibly shaken . “So how come the amounts don’t match ?” Mr Thompson asked , anger flaring. “Call everyone in”, he ordered. John returned to the bar , his face pale . We gathered in the office, anxiety hanging in the air. “Who took money from my office ?” Mr . Thompson demanded. We exchanged bewildered glances . “Sir , I didn’t,”we all replied in unison. “Then who did?” he asked , his voice rising . “Search us, “Felicia suggested. Yes, search us all , Victoria and I agreed. Mr. Thompson instructed a bouncer to check our bags . As he searched, I whispered to John , “Are you sure you didn’t make a mistake? “ “I’m sure”, he said , but doubt crept into his eyes . “I found the money”, a voice announced , breaking the tension. The bouncer held up the cash he’d found in my bag . “Excuse me ? That can’t be right”, I protest . “I didn’t take it”. The bouncer ignored me and marched into Mr. Thompson’s office . Panic gripped me as I turned to John . “I swear , I didn’t take the money”. John looked at me , confused and disbelief written all over his face . “I knew it, “Felicia said triumphantly. “I suspected it all along”. “Felicia, please stop this , I begged . “I didn’t take the money . “The money was found in your bag”, she shot back. “Victoria, say something”, I pleaded as we walked into Mr Thompson’s office. “Say what ? I’m not getting involved , “Victoria snapped. “Why did you steal from me ? Mr. Thompson asked, his voice icy . “Sir , I promise I didn't , “ I insisted. “ I would never do that . “But you need money for your father’s surgery”, Felicia interjected . “Is that true?” Mr Thompson asked , eyes narrowing . “Yes , but I didn't steal," I protested. “Leave now”, Mr.Thompson ordered, his expression unforgiving. “Please, sir , I swear I didn’t , " I cried . “Get her out”, he barked . The bouncer threw my bag at me and escorted me out as I pleaded for someone to believe me . I was so consumed by despair that I didn’t see the man in front of me until I stepped on his shoe . He started to scold me but when he saw my tears , his expression softened. “I’m sorry”, I choked out and rushed into the night . It was 8:45pm ,and the streets were deserted. I knew I had to walk to the next block to find a cab . As I walked, still crying, I saw two men struggling under the dim streetlight, one wearing a mask . Just as I decided to hide and watch what was happening because the man in the mask held a gun , a gunshot echoed through the night.
