A Recycling System in Jamaica

Chapter 3

He had an idea, and it was the most likely way to explain a sudden amount of money, but it was not a long-term solution. At most, it could only be used once and, if he used it correctly, it can help him find a source for the money he will spend in the future.

Looking at the time on his phone, it was already after eight, but it was not dark enough for what he planned to do that night. Today had been a very exciting day and while his body wasn't tired, his mind was, so he set an alarm for midnight and forced himself to sleep. Soon the room became silent except for the sound of breathing. However, his ability wasn't asleep while he slept. The sheets we slowly cleaned and so was his mattress, even the walls of his room became sparkling clean.

At midnight, Reed's phone vibrated for five minutes before he finally woke up. He tends to be a deep sleeper and normally a vibrating phone shouldn't be able to wake him up. However, he had placed it right by his head on the pillow to ensure that he would get up and not sleep through the night and miss his first chance to make some real money. He got up quietly and put on his old school shoes, breaking down the back. His feet had grown with the rest of his body. His original size 10 shoes couldn't fit his now size 12 feet. Just another reason for him to get up and make some real money. Sneaking out of his room into the kitchen and out the back door without waking up his mom and cousin was something very hard for him. He used his keys to close the back door and walked around the left side of the house, avoiding the right side where his mom and cousin had their rooms. The four dogs that they kept in the yard wanted to bark when they saw him, but he hurriedly hushed them, and they decided to follow him instead. Getting to the gate but not wanting to make too much noise, Reed decided to test out his new strength. Taking a few steps back, he ran and jumped, clearing the gate that was 4 feet tall in one quick jump. If he was seen by anyone, they would be shocked.

The dogs saw that he had left the yard and thought he was playing, so they tried to jump the gate as well. Two of them made it while two didn't. However, Reed wasn't interested in their antics and ran to the road, turning right and heading for the dump, ignoring the two dogs that were following behind him. It took him less than two minutes to get to the dump, and he went in through the ever-open gate. Even though he was surrounded by hills of garbage, Reed didn't smell anything and, because of that, he was very grateful to have his purifying ability. He always hated the smell of the dump. It was always very rotten due to the wet waste thrown there. Now, because of his power, even though he was standing there, the surrounding air was still fresh, and his body did not get contaminated by the smell either.

He looked around and was still surprised by the enhancement of his vision. His myopia had also been fixed. Now he was no longer near-sighted. It was great to be able to see so clearly in the dark. The dump didn't have any streetlights nearby, so he didn't worry about being seen by others and could use the system to the fullest.

“System recycle!” he said in his head.

“Please select a specific area.”

Once again, a panel appeared before him showing himself and his surroundings. He adjusted the area to as much as he could, but it couldn't cover all the dump; it was about a quarter of the area of the dump. Meaning he had to do it at least four times to get all the garbage. After he selected the area, the surrounding garbage disappeared, leaving only black soil.

“1.2 tons of garbage collected, 2645 experience points given, and $2,645,000 awarded. Due to the host's lack of places to hold the funds, a debit card had been prepared for the host. Please check the system space for the card.”

“Congratulations on leveling up to level 3. Two attribute points have been awarded.”

After hearing that he had been given 2.6 million dollars, Reed almost sat on the ground but caught himself in time. When he looked at the rest of the piles of garbage around him, he couldn't wait to recycle them all and he didn't. Using the same measurements as before, he hurriedly walked to the next hill of garbage and once again collected all the garbage in the area he selected.

“1902 pounds of garbage has been recycled. 1902 experience points have been given and $1,902,000 added to debit card.”

“1893 pounds of garbage has been recycled. 1893 experience points have been given and $1,893,000 added to debit card.”

“1.1 tons of garbage has been recycled. 2425 experience points given and $2,425,000 added to debit card.”

After all the garbage in the community dump was collected, Reed wanted to see what his status was like now, and he desperately wanted to check the amount of money he had been given. But he still wanted to try one more thing before going home.

“System, can I do a constant recycle in the area surrounding me?”

“Yes please indicate”

“10 feet on either side of me.”

After confirming the parameters, Reed started to run in the center of the road and all the garbage on either side of the road started to disappear. He ran around all the roads close to the dump, circling back to the dump before heading towards the lot next to his neighbor. Then he adjusted the parameters again and cleaned up all the garbage on the lot.

“105 pounds of garbage has been recycled. 105 experience points added and $105,000 added to debit card”

The total of the garbage that he collected from the roads and the abandoned lot was only 105 pounds, but that was still a lot. He plans to accumulate enough funds to buy this lot and other empty lots in the community. He wants to build some apartment buildings and hopefully revitalize the area. His aim has always been to collect money while he sleeps and the best way to do that was to be a landlord.

He didn't like the idea of working for others, but before he got the system, that was his only option, because he needed to work and accumulate enough capital to buy land and build the first apartment. Now with the system, he doesn't have to go that route. He can just recycle enough garbage and then use those funds to buy and build. Reed walked back home and once again jumped the gate, retracing his steps back to his room and into his bed.

Feeling how fresh and clean his bed was and even after going to a garbage dump and running around for an hour, he wasn't sweaty or dirty at all. He finally couldn't hold back anymore. Using his mind, he called up his status panel. He knew that he had leveled up and had gotten some other rewards, but he hadn't had time to check it while he was on the road. He knew that he was lucky tonight not to encounter anyone or be seen by any of the neighbors, and he hoped that he didn't have to do something like this again without some more measures in place to prevent his secrets from being found out. He looked at the panel and was happy and figured out that he had used 100 experience points to get to level 2 and 1000 points to get to level 3, and he needed a total of 10000 to get to level 4. Based on his observations, every time he leveled up, the points needed would be multiplied by 10, so it would be harder to level up in the future.

When it comes to rewards, for every pound of garbage you will get $1000 and 1 experience point.

Seeing that he had made some significant progress, Reed was happy and even more excited to see the bank card. Retrieving it from the system space, he saw that it was a National Commercial Bank Mastercard Debit Card. But it wasn't a card that he had seen before. This card was made of all metal and had a matte finish. When he saw that his name was on the card, he was amazed by what the system could do.

“Will this cause any problems with the bank? Will I be arrested?” Reed asked the system, feeling a little panicked.

“Please rest assured everything has been put in place to show that the funds are from legal methods and will not cause any trouble to the host.”

After hearing that, he became reassured and no longer worried about that, he just had to worry about how to cover the money he spent when his mom asked. He forced himself to stop thinking and just go to bed. He had a lot to do tomorrow, so he needed proper rest, and it was already 2:34 am.
