The next time Julia came to them, it was to escort one of them back to post-op.
“You go first,” Meghan urged. “It’s all right.”
“Thanks,” Drew said, and grabbed her in a fierce hug. “I promise I won’t take up all the time.”
Then he turned to Julia. “Take me to her, please.”
He followed the nurse down the hallway to a set of double doors. Julia pressed the large square button set into the wall on the right, and Drew heard the soft hiss of the lock releasing to open the doors.
They walked in silence until they reached bay six, to Drew’s right.
“Fifteen minutes, then we’ll go back out, and I’ll bring your friend in,” Julia said. “We have to keep visits to a minimum in post-op.”
“I understand,” Drew told her earnestly. “I’m just happy I get to see her.”
“I’ll be back shortly,” Julia ad
