By twelve-forty a.m. Karli was mad down to her toes, and in a moment of spitefulness she used the lock chain on the front door before she went to bed, knowing Evan would not be able to get inside easily. She heard pounding on the door around five a.m. that woke her from a sound sleep. Hah, here we go, she thought, and put her robe on before marching to the front door. Karli flipped the deadbolt, undid the chain lock, and flung the door open, prepared for a fight with Evan. Instead, her jaw dropped. “Jordan,” she stammered. “What are you doing here?” “Karli.
