The snow drifted outside the palace window. It was the first snow of the season marking the beginning tracks into a long and gloomy winter. I miss the green leaves on the trees, it feels like it's been centuries since I've seen them.
"Your highness please get away from the window. It would be awfully terrible for you to catch a cold in just the start of the season wouldn't it?" Dana asks cautiously from the doorframe of the library.
"Yes I suppose it would Dana. Please if you would tell father I would like to meet him during dinner time that would be great." I mumble. Mother would have been out in the flakes by now with me on her shoulders, or at least that's what I like to imagine.
"Dana please if you would bring me an overcoat I want to go outside." I mutter. Why should I have to ask to do things? I am the princess after all. I should just be able to do what I want.
"Hannelle you know your father's wishes are for you to stay inside for the beginning of the snow. We are due for a storm later tonight and the following days." She smiles fear stricken on her face like she's scared I'll scold her. What a child.
"Dana may I ask, am I my father's subject?" I grumble. This is absurd.
"No your highness." She simmers her head dipping a little.
"Then why should I abide by his rules?" I grimace. "So just do as I say and get it done quickly." I swear the rules a princess must follow get longer and longer each day.
"Yes-" her answer is interrupted by a deep voice, Father.
"Hannelle I don't appriciate you going against my word." He grumbles placing a rough hand on my shoulder.
"Ah yes Father." I hate listening to him but what other choice do I have?
"It's already almost sundown please prepare for dinner and then head to bed." His voice light.
"Yes father." I sulk heading back down to my room.
