CHAPTER 3

It was hell.

I was whipped black and blue. The blood on my wounds had dried due to the cold. I ate and drink. Then sleep through the pain. and the dreadful morning came where I must go through that torture again.

At first, the guard seemed hesitant to hit me. But after few more days, it even seemed as if he’s enjoying torturing me already. As if, my screams of pain and pleading were music to his ears…

I can’t anymore. When will this end?

“Ugh….” I crawled on the bed at the corner of the prison, with my knees and arms trembling. It had became a pattern this time already. After the guard finished his 100th whip, I would crawl on my bed and rest as I endure the pain on my wounds. Then, he would go out and lock the door. Afterall, since he started whipping me, he also removed my chains since he believed I was already too weak to even escape in my condition.

I thought it would be the same this time. However, I was jolted when he suddenly grabbed my hair.

“Ahh! What are you doing?!” I screamed at him, feeling the pain not just from my scalp but also on my wounds.

“Don’t move!” he told me in a firm tone. My eyes widened in confusion when he suddenly leaned down, his nose on my wound…?

“That sweet scent…” his eyes met mine. “…is this yours?”

“What?” I mouthed. Shocked. Unable to react. How did he find out? Was it because I had been too weak that I was unable to control my scent?!

“Damn! Your scent is too irresistible! Tell me, how were you able to hide it from Alpha Liam this long? Or else, knowing him, the moment he smelled your scent, he’ll definitely wouldn’t have been able to hold back.”

“What? Stay away! Let me go!” I jerked my arm off him and run away. However, he snatched my ankle and pulled me back.

Thankfully, I used my arm to protect my head. Or else, I would have broken it when it hit the concrete floor.

“Let me have a taste of you first miss. Your scent… it’s too strong. So sweet!”

This man. It’s as if he’s already losing his mind. Even his eyes look hazy with lust. When my gaze caught a sight of his pants, I shuddered in fear when I saw him pitching a tent down there.

It was my negligence. I shouldn’t have lowered my guard down and let him discover my scent.

“Ugh! You b***h!” the man squeezed in pain when I kicked his balls, grabbing his keys towards the door.

I was trembling in anxiety as I inserted the keys on the lock. However, with several keys in there, I can’t find the right one. Inside my head, I was already praying.

Please let this be the right key. Please…

After trying the third one, I heard a clicking sound, indicating it was the right key. I rotated it, hurrying although my cold hands weren’t even helping me.

I was almost there. I can run away now. I’m sure of it. I convinced myself. However, before I could even remove the lock, strong hand grabbed my wrist. And I froze on my feet.

“You’re not going anywhere.”

“AHHHHH!”

He threw me on the bed. And before I even move, he went on top of me. His hand pinning me on my neck. He wasn’t choking me enough to make me lose consciousness. Just enough to make me unable to escape.

“You dirty jerk! Go away!”

However, it’s as if he wasn’t listening to anything anymore. His eyes shifted into his wolf form. And he looked too overwhelmed with his lust.

Did my pheromones did this?

“Nooo! Please…”

Tears flowed from my eyes. I was sobbing. Begging. But the man continued to rip my clothes off me, his nose buried on my neck as he sniffed my scent. I heard him cursing.

I must fight back. I shouldn’t let this man ruin me. However, suddenly, a distant memory flashed inside my mind. It was a woman who’s face I can’t see. And she’s telling me…

“Never ever let anyone find out who you are. Don’t let them see your wolf. Don’t let them smell your pheromones. Caia… You must live well on your own from now on… Promise me… will you?”

Right. I should hide my scent. I should never let them find out who am I. But… how am I suppose to protect myself from this beast if I hide my wolf?

“So… this is where you are… mate?”

That deep and powerful voice. I felt a shudder in my spine the moment I heard his voice. It’s as if, something inside me was awakening because of his presence.

“Who dares to disturb me?!” the guard who’s on top of me snarled, turning to where the voice came from.

Behind the iron bars was a man who I don’t recognize. I can’t clearly see his features because of the dim light. But from his silhouette, he’s clearly a tall man with huge build. And his aura was enough to tell us that he’s not an ordinary alpha.

But…

His eyes. Is he… looking at me?

Who is he? And why… do I feel a burning sensation inside my body the moment our eyes met? Still, his gaze didn’t linger in me. Instead, it travelled to the man who was on top of me, brushing a look at our embarrassing position.

And for a moment, I saw how his expression darkened in anger.

“You’re seeking your death, you damn insect!” he cursed under his breath. Without even letting a second pass, with just his bare hand, he destroyed the iron bars in a snap. Like as if, it was no big deal.

I was so stunned that I wasn’t able to react immediately. In just a few strides, he reached where we were and grabbed the man in his collar.

“Who are you!? This is the Nightbloom estate! How dare you intrude-”

The man didn’t even flinch nor cared. He just continued punching the guard while pinning him on top, not caring even when the blood splattered everywhere. Even on me…

It was too gruesome that I shuddered with what I was witnessing. This man… he’s ruthless. There’s not even a hint of remorse or guilt as he punched someone to death.

I… need to run away. Now.

I stood up and not wasting a second, I ran as fast as I could. However, before finally leaving the gates of the prison that held me captive for several days, I paused on my tracks and looked back at the man. As if waiting for me, his gaze immediately captured mine.

Were his golden eyes always been that raging?

I bit my lips and clenched my fists. And I whispered. “I’m sorry…” My mate.
