ALMOST PERFECT DAY

“Check my purse for my credit card” mom said handing me her bag while driving. I took her purse and checked it. “Yeah” I replied showing her the card and then returning it to her purse. We are really going to shop for my prom! Insane dream I’m having right now! Maybe Santa finally read my Christmas wish from when I was 8, ten years ago. “Why is everywhere so busy?” Mom laughed as we drove through the traffic “It’s almost summer mom. Everyone’s trying to get it right” I replied laughing as well. We have been driving in silence for almost one hour only having occasional chats of two minutes at most. Good bonding time if you ask me! “Here” mom suddenly said breaking the silence. A large gate was opened and she drove in and parked at its parking lot. If I didn’t know any better I would have said maybe my mom secretly owned this place and she waited for the right time to tell me or something related but that ain’t never gonna happen because my mom was both an alcoholic and a clubbing addict. “You’re not getting down?” My mom suddenly snapped at me Damn! I’ve been staring at thin air the whole time bro. “Oh sorry” I quietly unbuckling the seat belt and getting down. Walking from the car to the main mall building was literally almost five minutes. The place is as big and you can imagine and it is so clean. We finally entered the building and the cold strongly scented air hit me hard. It’s a busy, very lively and exotic kind of mall for real. “How do you shop anyways?” My mom laughed looking very confused “I don’t know” I replied realizing I’m actually very traumatized. Who’s the eighteen year old girl who hasn’t been to a mall to shop for clothes before? Daisy! I get my clothes from friends, cousins, my mom’s handovers, and sometimes from my Aunty during Christmas or my birthday. “Well this is f****d” my mom laughed again. There’s absolutely nothing funny. “Let’s just go in this direction and see if we’ll see prom worthy dresses” I said pointing to the left to a thick dark glass door labeled ‘6’. If we stood there any longer it would become embarrassing and even more traumatic. Imagine an attendant coming to ask what was wrong and we go “we don’t know how to shop” We walked over to the door. Someone behind it opened it for us and we walked in. The door opened and it was as though we entered a whole new world. This hall was even colder than the actual building with a stronger French scent. It was very beautiful. Yeah my instincts were very correct because there were over a thousand ball gowns and dinner gowns here. “Okay so I guess this is the part you pick out a dress right?” My mom asked looking around totally amazed by the environment “Let’s look together mom” I have anxiety and my mom is the only company I have. “Ugh fine” my mom replied rolling her eyes at me as we both walked to where the dresses were hung After what seemed like forever, I checked the time on my wristwatch and damn, it’s only been fifteen minutes. “Really Daisy? You don’t like this one?” My mom asked pulling by the shoulders as I walked on “Really mom? Look at it!” I laughed at her zeal for the dress I walked across a few more and then my eyes caught the one! I visualized my ass in this and damn it was very inappropriate and just my type of thing to wear. I suddenly stopped in front of the dress and my mom noticed. “Oh common! You’re really about to pick this over that?” She asked sounding very disappointed, pointing back to the other she liked but I didn’t. “Mom just imagine me in this!” I said with so much excitement, I forgot how it sounded in real life “Hell no!” She hissed “Don’t be like that mom. Be real with me, this sexy black dress wouldn’t look good on me?” I asked trying my hardest to convince her This dress in question is so damn fine! It’s soft and smooth. It’s shinny nature makes it even better. Shinny as in leather kind of shinny not sequence kind of shinny. It stood out on the mannequin and looked so good. It gives the divine dark femme energy and I definitely want it! “Whatever! You’re boring anyways” my mom causally said looking at the dress with so much disgust “Is that a yes?” I asked hiding the rush of joy I felt in my veins “Are you a a boring teenager who doesn’t know how to shop?” She asked staring at me straight in my eyes “Yessssss…?” I knew her aim with that question. “Let’s go” she said walking towards the glass door. I followed behind her. “Wait how do we pay?” She asked suddenly turning back. I shrugged. “Ugh!” My mom groaned so loudly an attendant noticed us “My name is Jane. How may I be of help?” The beautiful lady asked us. To be honest, we look too helpless. “Hi. I’m Miranda. Where do I pay?” My mom asked sounding polite That’s not something you hear often “Oh payments are made over there.” Jane said pointing to the extreme end of the hall “Payment for what if I may ask?” “Oh ahmm… a boring ass dress my daughter picked out” my mom said with a straight face Jane’s countenance fell but she kept it together. “Can you show me to the dress so I’ll have it packaged fir you as you pay?” Jane asked looking up at me “Sure” I said leading Jane to the dress which was a few steps behind while my mom waited for us. “Here” I said pointing at the majestic beauty before me. “This is quite expensive. It’s very beautiful. I love your choice love” Jane said smiling at me. My mom glared at us spitefully after Jane made the comment and I was glad she got the message. Jane picked up the entire mannequin and we walked to the place we were to pay. “That will be $1,599” the small lady behind the cash machine said. My mom stretched out her card to the lady. She swiped it and it showed ‘Transaction Successful’. The dress was taken off the mannequin and packaged and placed in the customized bag which Jane handed to me. “Thank you” I bowed as my mom and I walked away. We got to the glass door and the thick man behind it opened it for us. We walked out and waved to the man. “Need to get shoes or you’ve got at home? My mom stopped and asked me. “I’ve got at home” I replied considering the fact we just spent over a thousand dollars on one dress. “Alright let’s get ice cream” she smiled walking towards the front door of the mall I followed behind her. I was still admiring the mall when my mom suddenly stopped causing me to also suddenly stop behind her wondering what was wrong. She pierced her gaze at something or someone at the parking lot outside and suddenly hurried out. “Mom!” I shouted running behind her as we left the building We were about five feet away from two people who were unaware of their environment, kissing each other very passionately in the afternoon for no reason at all. But okay what’s my mom’s issue with them? “What’s wrong?” I asked my mom panting heavily “Look closely Daisy” she whispered sounding very suspicious and on to something. I looked carefully at the image of the couple and then I realized. It’s Kayla and Zuriel! Damn it man. Today was almost perfect.
