Episode 14 â Hearts Unmasked (Part 4)
By afternoon the mansionâs usual rhythm returned: staff moving quietly, phones buzzing, engines starting.
Jessica followed Jayden down a stairway she hadnât seen before â stone steps curving beneath the house, the air cooler and still.
Jessica: âYouâve been keeping secrets.â
Jayden: âOnly the kind that keep people safe.â
Jessica: âAnd this?â
Jayden: âThis keeps us alive.â
The stairway opened into a cavern lit by old lamps. At the center stood a circle of carved pillars, each etched with a lion and twin suns. The air hummed, faintly alive.
Jessica: âWhat is this place?â
Jayden: âThe heart of the Khumalo bloodline. Our ancestors called it Isibindi Sangaphakathi â Courage Within.â
As he stepped inside the circle, gold light shimmered under his feet. The same glow rippled across her skin the moment she entered.
Jessica: âJay⊠itâs reacting to me.â
Jayden: âItâs never done that before.â
A door creaked behind them. Jason, Muzi, and Ntlaka appeared, their faces unreadable.
Jason: âSo itâs true then. The circle chose her.â
Muzi: âIâve only seen it glow like that once â when you and Jason were born.â
Ntlaka: âAnd now her. The foreigner.â
Jessica didnât flinch.
Jessica: âIf this offends the family, I can step out.â
Muzi: âStep out and itâll dim. Thatâs not offense; thatâs proof.â
Jayden: âBrothers, sheâs part of this now. The beast inside me stirs around her but⊠it listens.â
Jason: âThat shouldnât be possible.â
Muzi: âUnless sheâs what the old stories meant â the balance.â
Ntlaka: âThe one born to tether the beasts.â
Jayden looked at her, eyes soft.
Jayden: âYou sure you still want to know what this means?â
Jessica: âI already do.â
The carvings around them pulsed once, faint gold lines linking Jaydenâs mark to hers â invisible until that moment. The brothers stepped back instinctively.
Jason: âThatâs a soul mark.â
Muzi: âTwo beasts, one anchor.â
Ntlaka: âIf thatâs true, the bond is permanent.â
Jessica reached for Jaydenâs hand, fingers steady.
Jessica: âPermanent doesnât scare me. Lies do.â
Jayden: âThen youâre safe here.â
For the first time, the brothers smiled â wary but proud.
Jason: âWelcome to the family, Cipher.â
Muzi: âGuess weâll need to teach you our ways.â
Ntlaka: âAnd maybe sheâll teach us hers.â
The golden light faded, leaving the quiet echo of power and acceptance.
Jayden: âWhatever comes next, we face it together.â
Jessica: âTogether.â
