Episode 14 – Hearts Unmasked (Part 2) The night air was still, every sound amplified — the whisper of wind through the leaves, the faint hum of city lights far below. Jessica stayed still, forehead against Jayden’s, feeling the steady rhythm of his breath. Jessica: “You know, for a man feared by half of Johannesburg, you’re very gentle.” Jayden: “Only with you.” Jessica: “Why?” Jayden: “Because you make me want to be.” He drew back just enough to meet her gaze. There was fire there, yes — but also something vulnerable. Jessica: “You don’t have to keep pretending, Jay. Not with me.” Jayden: “Pretending?” Jessica: “That you’re only a beast. You’re not. You’re human first.” He let out a quiet laugh, shaking his head. Jayden: “You talk like someone who’s seen both heaven and hell.” Jessica: “Maybe I have. But tonight feels like neither.” She stood, walking a few steps toward the balcony overlooking the gardens. He followed, stopping just behind her. Jayden: “Jess
” Jessica: “Hmm?” Jayden: “I’ve never let anyone close enough to see me lose control. Not even my brothers.” Jessica: “And now?” Jayden: “Now I’m terrified because I want to.” Her hand found his — small but steady. Jessica: “Then don’t fight it. Whatever’s inside you, I’m not afraid of it.” Jayden: “You should be.” Jessica: “You think darkness scares me? I lived in it for years, Jay. I made it my weapon.” He stepped closer, his chest against her back, his breath warm against her ear. Jayden: “You’re fire, Jessica. You burn through every defense I’ve ever built.” Jessica: “Then stop building them.” He turned her around, his hand resting lightly against her jaw, tilting her face up. Jayden: “You make this sound so easy.” Jessica: “Loving me never will be. But it’ll be real.” Something shifted then — quiet but powerful. The tension between them wasn’t about fear anymore; it was about surrender. Jayden brushed his thumb along her cheek, tracing the faint line of a scar she’d once tried to hide. Jayden: “You always look like you’re holding back.” Jessica: “Maybe because I don’t know what happens when I stop.” Jayden: “Then find out.” She did. She leaned in first, a soft, uncertain kiss — not out of passion but trust. He answered it gently, like someone afraid to wake from a dream. When they finally pulled apart, neither spoke. Jayden: “You could’ve run a long time ago.” Jessica: “I don’t run from things worth staying for.” He smiled — a real one, unguarded and warm. Jayden: “If you stay, you’ll see all of me. Even the beast.” Jessica: “Then I’ll just have to tame it.” A low laugh escaped him, rough and tender all at once. Jayden: “God help me, you might.” The night stretched on — no war, no enemies, no blood. Just two people finding peace where neither expected it. When Jessica finally fell asleep in his arms, Jayden stayed awake a while longer, watching her. For the first time in years, the thing inside him — that wild, ancient force — didn’t rage. It purred.
