Friends of mine who are yoga masters told me that the reason yogis chant in Sanskrit is that the vibrations of Sanskrit words are said to manifest the things they name. The universe is a great evolving vibration of energy (the "big bang") and the yogis hear the vibrations relating to the individual things. While I couldn’t find scientific verification of this, I loved the idea. Because all human language descended from Indo-European roots, and because Sanskrit is one of the oldest languages, it seemed like a good fit for the trees. Other compound words came to me as I considered the trees" point of view.
