As the pair struggled free of the water Meg stepped forward with a glare.
“Save the look Megums, we both know you can’t do anything here.” Ned taunted as he reached out to grab her arm. Eddy in turn lunged forward with a snarl and tackled Ned while Sorrel casually shifted Meg to one side. As Sorrel stepped backwards to avoid the boys now rolling across the ground, he stepped into the small flower bed that separated the picnic area from the pool.
As he did so his bare foot touched a vaguely slimy plant and he glanced down. The sight of the watergate weed wrapping around his ankle and inching up his leg had his eyes widening before he swore.
“Hey, what do you think you're doing?” Christian demanded as he approached the fight.
~Sephy, the knockout now. ~ Sorrel called through the bond as he watched the leaf begin to glow.
“Uncle Christian, get a new gardener.” Sorrel yelled just as Sephy appeared on Sorrel’s neck with two needs that glowed with a pale blue mist. As the weed reached his thigh it now looked like a fluorescent light and Christian’s eyes widened in realisation just as Sorrel tossed the two needles accurately hitting Maul and Claw in the necks.
The pair of humans swaying in place and Chris and Adie hurriedly caught them. Chris pulled Maul towards the edge while Aide just tossed Claw out of the water before he leapt out and towards Sorrel.
Sorrel shoved Meg aside but was unable to prevent Eddy and Ned from rolling into his legs and promptly getting entrapped by the weed.
Christian raced across the distance but was still five metres away when the light went nova and Sorrel was pulled to another realm.
Sorrel reached down and ripped what remained of the weed from his leg as he glanced around the pitch-black depths of the water. He released his control on his hair and it fanned out around him spikes forming at the edges as the branches prepared to rip at anything that approached.
Sorrel shifted to his natural sight. Well, that wasn’t good. There was no sign of either Ned or Eddy and the faint traces of creatures passing all had the marks of fins or tentacles. Which was not helpful since that was basically part and parcel for water creatures.
Sorrel shrugged. The pair were from this realm so they should be fine. Though he wondered if the pair had ever come this far to the depths. Sorrel determined that he had to be close to the central depths. Which was saying something for a nearly entirely submerged world. In particular Sorrel was somewhat concerned for Eddy since he was still an air breathing sort.
Sorrel frowned and brushed a hand over the coral that created the reef maze that he was in and asked them to look out for the Selkie if they encountered him. Sorrel then reverted his sight, the disorientation of seeing but not seeing the walls was not fun.
Sorrel looked around and considered his options, he could walk through the coral maze, or plant shift to a specific point in the maze, but so far as he could tell there wasn’t one area of the maze more appealing than the other. Though he supposed he could try wild working but the path between the wilds would not help him when he didn’t know where he was going.
Since he sensed no other watergate weed. Though he wondered if that was them hiding more than anything. Sorrel shrugged and decided to just pick a direction and start walking. He kept a hand on the coral asking for it to talk about any animals it saw. It was a strange experience a million voices saying the same thing was not what Sorrel called pleasant. He was suddenly glad that he wasn’t a purely aquatic plant.
Turning the next corner Sorrel pulled up short at being face to face with an eel. Belatedly the coral commented.
*Oh, that’s Finnigan, he’s always around here. Doesn’t talk much. *
The eel flinched in return when it spotted Sorrel before it paused and swan round him twice from the ankles to the shoulders. A tremor of static ran over the eel as it looked at Sorrel expectantly.
Sorrel raised his hands in a shrug before bowing and gesturing for the eel to go first. Immediately afterwards a second eel appeared from amongst the coral roof and lunged at Sorrel. However, before it connected a large tail appeared and smacked it from the side.
Sorrel twisted his lips, it would seem that water plants were too fluid not at all good at being lookouts. He turned around to find the owner of the tail and nodded in reassurance at Uncle Christian’s concerned look.
Christian gave a nod of his own before he smacked the second eel flying again. From behind Christian Sephy swam out in her dragon form though she’d opted for a larger size than the normal kitten size. Instead, being rough the same size as a fur seal. She moved fluidly as she swam over to exam Sorrel before she said.
*The weed seemed to deliberately separate us. I was flung several miles away and couldn’t pull on the bond*
Sorrel nodded in response than opened her mouth and said “ahdd menan liqfid.” The water gargled the sound she intended to make. Sorrel rolled his eyes before grasping Sephy’s paw and spoke to her mind.
*I thought you’d managed to avoid the portal. The bond cannot have tugged her and there is a supercharge of abilities. This isn’t like earth; this isn’t H2O its condensed mana. Drowning here is like drowning in power not only do you fill your lungs with liquid you’re likely to explode.*
