Suddenly Blinded 1.14

When they stepped out of the phone store Jasper felt neither surprised nor confused to once again see Kayad waiting patiently out the front. It seemed that today alone he had seen Kayad exercise more patience than he normally saw in a year it was truly an eye-opening experience. “What sort of phone did you get?” Kayad asked, his eyes focused on Sorrel. Jasper had felt it clearly ever since they had ‘coincidentally’ Sorrel. So long as they were in the same space Kayad’s attention was completely focused on Sorrel. Which is not to say he wasn’t aware of his surroundings rather Kayad seemed hyper aware of the surroundings as if he was on a battlefield or guarding a treasure. Jasper might not have noticed it if he wasn’t aware of the same result in himself when he was around Daylen. Though Jasper felt that he was not as extreme as Kayad after all Daylen was an accomplished fighter himself and the city was peaceful even if they had their run-ins with the other clubs and clans there was no serious danger. Still Jasper wouldn’t have thought so with the way Kayad acted in Sorrel’s presence. In fact, if Jasper didn’t know for a fact that it was impossible for Kayad to have known where Sorrel would be today, Jasper might have thought that Kayad had planned this outing precisely so he could ‘run into’ Sorrel.  That was impossible though, Kayad couldn’t have known ahead of time that Jasper would wake-up early to go shopping. Couldn’t have known that Mr. Serie would decide to come out early and would come to Arch mall, let alone that Sorrel would get separated. There was no way that was it. “Ah, latest smartphone umm….” Sorrel started to explain but when he got to the point of listing of details, he trailed off clearly having not remembered. “Let me look.” Kayad reached out and took the box for the phone turning it over and then nodded. “Pretty lucky, here is a cover for you. I was getting a new one for my phone but once I bought it, I realised that they had given me the wrong model. Just my luck they didn’t have the design in the model for my phone and wouldn’t take a return. I went to another store and couldn't get the same one but another I liked well enough.” As he spoke Kayad took out a phone cover for Sorrel’s new iPhone. It was a scenic cover of a forest at night-time with a crescent moon and a storm growing in the distance. It was a bit more involved than the plain coloured covers that Kayad normally got but the scene definitely suited his tastes still.” “You couldn’t convince the store to accept a return, you.” Jasper raised his brows in disbelief. Kayad’s lips twitched as frowned, “the school councillor is here.” “Oh, you have got to be kidding me, are we leaving now?” Jasper returned as he rolled his eyes. “What huh? Aren’t we going to look at watches and ah other things? Is the councillor a problem?” Sorrel interrupted as he looked from Jasper to Kayad and back again while holding his new phone in one hand and the cover that Kayad had just given him in the other. “Just some human forever concerned for our immoral souls. Works at BPA and is enthusiastically concerned about the health, wellbeing and actions of every single student. I strongly suspect that he has no life.” Jasper explained. Sorrel in turn blinked and c****d his head to the side in thought before seeming to understand something. “Never mind him, just a bit too concerned so long as we do nothing of note he can just be ignored.” Kayad said as he reached out and pulled Sorrel out of the line of traffic and then skilfully put the cover on the phone and went through the set-up process. The phone had been charged and the sim registered in the phone shop at Jasper’s request since it was Sorrel’s first phone, but the phone’s set-up was yet to be done. Kayad though was very efficient talking Sorrel through the whole process quickly while looking away at the times passwords and pin codes were set. He then explained the process of saving a contact and sending a message with his own number before allowing Sorrel to go through the steps to put in Mr Serie’s number. As Sorrel messaged Mr Serie Kayad in turn pulled his phone out and saved Sorrel’s number from the message he had sent himself. In the process Jasper saw the new phone cover that Kayad had ‘liked well enough’ after not being able to have the one he had given Sorrel. It was a scenic cover as well it was however of a forest in daytime with warm golden light pouring through the trees onto a field of flowers. One hundred and ten percent not what Jasper would consider a Kayad scene though it really did suit the feel Jasper got from Sorrel. “Alright shall we go look at watches?” Kayad casually put his phone away as he spoke, he seemed oblivious to the narrow-eyed look that Jasper was giving him. “Right, I wonder if I should get one?” Sorrel wondered as he was led across the corridor and into the shop by Kayad. Jasper followed while shaking his head. In the shop Jasper decided to ignore the other two as much as possible but they made the attempt exceedingly difficult. At one moment Kayad carefully explained the in and outs of the various Fitbits and other watches the next he chained tune to talk colours when Sorrel focused on that instead. Jasper in the end absently looked over the new arrivals before picking out a silver ring with a blue centre insert. After asking the clerk for two one in his size and one in one size smaller Jasper pulled out the necklace he was wearing and slid the smaller ring onto it next to two silver blank topped signet rings. Eventually he would work up the nerve or find the right opportunity to hand them on. As Jasper turned around, he suddenly wished for sunglasses as he was met with the sight of Kayad helping Sorrel put on a new watch with a plain leaf green band while Kayad already wore the same watch with a grey band. Jasper might not have had an issue except that Sorrel’s watch band was the same colour as Kayad’s eyes while Kayad’s watch was the same as Sorrel’s hair. Clearly should have been very ordinary but Jasper just felt that he knew too much and thus was seeing wrong. Until they stepped outside and Kayad told Sorrel to go buy the clothes he wanted since that would be just right for going to the amusement park next weekend. Jasper halted to wonder when it was determined that they were going to the amusement park when Kayad promptly stepped into the store next door to buy a dreamcatcher. The design was made with eagle feathers with a yin yang fox and wolf design in the centre. Jasper stared at the dream catcher for time and then decided that it would be best not to think about things. With him being this ‘subtle’ if others still had thoughts that were just them asking for death. Kayad glanced at Jasper as he stood stationary by the door before he shrugged and went inside. Jasper watched as he spoke to Sorrel for a time before Sorrel went round and found a second pair of pants and vest shirt in Kayad’s size but in a different colour and put them up to be purchased with his own. Jasper then reached up to cover his eyes and turned away. What he can’t see won’t hurt him. He would have to find a reasonable excuse to not go to the amusement park with them if they asked or at the very least be sure to bring the other club members along to suffer with him. “Jasper, are you not feeling well?” Sorrel asked as he led Kayad back out of the clothing shop. Kayad very naturally followed behind carrying the bag with the clothes in it after having put the dream catcher inside. “No, just got hit with a light glare.” Jasper responded as he looked down at Sorrel. Really too young and fresh it seemed that on somethings was generally aware but on other things had not even touched. Jasper decided to send Sorrel some story links to read. Ones particularly heavy on the PDA that would hopefully enlighten the young man. “it’s almost lunch time. Should we go back to the food court for lunch before we head back. I just remembered that I have some homework that I haven’t finished.” Jasper decided that rather than stay here and possibly get blinded some more it was better to go back and do his assignments. It would save him so much mental damage and would make the teachers happy. “Oh, okay it is important to finish your assignments.” Sorrel nodded immediately while Kayad flicked a dark look at Jasper but didn’t say anything. When they reached the food court again Sorrel looked at all the stores and started to fidget clearly not knowing what he should get. “You know I don’t know what to get, maybe just get a combination platter from the Chinese Mix?” Jasper said to Kayad who nodded in agreement before looking at Sorrel to explain. “That lets you get a bunch of different dishes on a shareable platter with several other plates, so you can try a lot of things in one go.” Kayad stepped back and headed off at Sorrel’s nod and Jasper turned to lead them over to a small booth that was relatively isolated in the courtyard and so wouldn’t be noticed if he put up an isolation shield.
