Gone Where? 2.19

When the trio returned to where their bags were Kayad almost dropped the lunches he held because Sorrel was no longer there. “Where is he?” Kayad asked of William and Simon who stood opposite the bags and had looked puzzled by their approach. “We thought he was with you? He wasn’t here when we came out of class.” William replied. Kayad tightened his hold on the food and when he heard the faint cracking of the plastic tray, he forced his hands to loosen. Kayad took a deep breath. There had been no notice of incidents on campus and Sorrel was not an easy one to deal with it would be fine. As Kayad then set the tray down between his and Sorrel’s bag the scent of roses and lilies assailed him and he straightened with a snarl. That f*****g Sidhe prince. He didn’t share any classes with Sorrel, was a third year and should have been well and truly busy. It seemed Kayad was too lenient in finding things to keep the little flirt occupied. Well, such an omission would just have to be fixed. Pulling out his phone Kayad sent a quick message to Dimitri and Al they had been responsible for the initial work for the prince and so should be able to figure out how the little prince suddenly had free time. At least Kayad could now be assured of Sorrel’s safety. It was said that the prince had fallen in love at first sight and so it was likely a misguided confession. Since the prince only liked Sorrel’s appearance the relationship was always doomed to fail. Especially now given that the prince disdained the BIRD district and all it represented, while Sorrel had grown to love it. Still, “that little prince better not try anything, or I’ll turn him from a little prick into a no prick.” Kayad muttered. “Watch our food.” Kayad demanded of the group in general before he stalked off down the corridor. He partly followed the overwhelming scent of the Sidhe prince while mostly following the familiar smell of Oleander that he knew to be Sorrel, despite the nature of his plant Sorrel’s scent was still not like the other Oleander around, Kayad was an expert in the subtleties of Sorrel’s scent at this point. Sorrel went out the back of the veranda past the library and into the peppercorn woods. As he passed the first tree Kayad contemplated asking his father for more funding to install something different here. Like a sports field or something, something open so people couldn’t use the trees to hide Sorrel. Though now that he thought about Kayad wondered if Sorrel would be unhappy for the trees to go. Maybe if Kayad just arranged for their relocation? At the back of the woods the smell of the Sidhe prince, Kel, was almost overwhelming and so Kayad was not surprised to find him when he rounded the next tree. Unfortunately, the Sidhe was crying to himself and Sorrel was not there. “Where’s Sorrel?” Kayad demanded. The Kel’s brown hair was scattered across his hands as he cried into his palms. He knelt on the ground while his shoulders shook but Kayad was less concerned with his heartbreak than he was with Sorrel’s absence. “Wha?” Kel asked as he glanced up with a dazed look as tears continued to fall from his green eyes. The sight should have been enchanting from the pretty face but Kel’s continued lack of answer was like begging for a beating as far as Kayad was concerned. “Where… is… Sorrel” Kayad repeated slowly as he loomed over the top of Kel’s kneeling form. Screw inter-realm relations and hierarchy. Since the i***t’s crying was intensifying his scent it had completely overrode Sorrel’s milder scent. Which meant that if Kel couldn’t give him an answer Kayad needed to start doing a spiral search to try and pick up a trail away from the cloying aroma of roses and lilies. “Oh Sorrel, she she said I was no good. That I was too self-centred. That I didn’t understand people at all. What did she want me to understand about you barbarians?” Kel wailed. Kayad took a deep breath. Now that the i***t was talking maybe he could get something useful out of him. “Firstly, Sorrel typically goes by him, secondly he’s been at school and the leader of his own club for six weeks. Thus, if you went out with your usual attitude it’s no wonder, he turned you down since you quite handily insulted him and his friends. Now the important part where the f**k did, he go?” Kayad explained but let his voice rise at the end until he grabbed Kel’s shoulders. Startled Kel into a hick-up before he pointed towards the far side of the woods in the direction of the botanical garden. “Some of her ah his girlfriends picked him up and took him that way.” Kel said. Kayad froze, aside from Victoria and ostensibly Carla if the fight day one counted, Kayad hadn’t seen Sorrel talk to any of the other girls. He didn’t even think he’d spoken to Aleana despite her continued approaches to Kayad. Kayad released Kel from his grip and the prince dropped to his ass on the ground. Kayad didn’t stick around to see what Kel was thinking next but instead sprinted from the woods towards the botanical garden. Coming back out into the clearing Kayad could see the botanical gardens where Dr Johnson stood in front as he checked the climate monitoring on the displays. “Dr Johnson have you seen Sorrel?” Sorrel had easily passed his equivalencies, to the point where Dr Johnson occasionally spoke to Sorrel about the qualities of one plant or another. Dr Williams was not so inclined though. “Ah, young Kayad, looking for Sorrel? I saw him with some girls going into the Serenity Garden.” Dr Johnson said with his patented kind smile. Kayad nodded and took off at a run calling out from over his shoulder “Thanks Dr.” As he ran Kayad comforted himself with the thought that there had been no incidents reported on campus so the scent on day one was probably not what they’d thought.
