The walk too, and English class itself was uneventful. Though Sorrel looked like he was fascinated by the book they’d been given to review. Kayad was a little bit envious of the focus Sorrel had on the book but decided to not be petty and settle for just recapturing Sorrel’s attention. When English ended Kayad helped Sorrel pack his bag. Including putting the English novel at the back behind the rest of his textbooks while scanning a look over their covers. All the same as last time save for the last book. Stealth magic had not been one Sorrel had chosen before. Kayad was sure because he had taken that class and Sorrel hadn’t been in it. That meant either there was an issue with Sorrel enrolling in the class or that something had changed to spark the interest. “its first break or recess now right?” Sorrel asked as they were packing the bag. “Yes. Come on and I’ll show you where you can put your bag so you don’t have to lug it into every class.” Kayad offered as he flipped the bag closed and then grabbed the back strap. Kayad braced himself and lifted. Yep, that was heavy. Kayad mentally added an hour to his gym and combat practice for muscle development. It would be embarrassing if he struggled to carry his treasure’s bag. Kayad led the way through the corridors to the veranda benches where most people left their bags. Kayad set Sorrel’s bag down next to his and then paused when a strong shield spell activated around the bag. Sorrel seemed oblivious as he reached into the bag and settled his pencil case at the front. Kayad turned around and caught sight of William and Simon as they approached from the other side of the veranda, as second years they could only meet Sorrel at school if it was during the breaks. “Kayad, I have competency tests after recess can you show me where room 503 is?” Sorrel asked as he seemed oblivious to the approach of the other two. “Sure, we can go get something to snack on and then I will show you the way.” Kayad smiled at Sorrel before his expression went blank “Way where?” William asked as he stopped just beside them. “To the canteen first, Sorrel obviously needs a tour of the campus after.” Kayad said indifferently as he touched Sorrel’s elbow to lead him around the two towards the canteen. “Oh, right. The shield will prevent anyone from touching the leader's bag but leader. A hundred percent proof with a strong alert for tampering.” Simon responded as he fell into step behind them. Kayad frowned. While he was happy that no random people could touch Sorrel’s stuff but he didn’t like the idea that he wasn’t able to help carry things. “Ah, leader have you thought about a name for our group.” William asked as he came around Sorrel’s other side. There was a momentary delay before Sorrel seemed to realize that William had directed the question at him. “Bloodied Petals.” Sorrel replied, clearly deciding to stick to what he had told Kayad. “Oh okay.” William nodded and then took out his phone and started typing and flicking through pages. No doubt finishing the registration for the club. At the canteen Kayad ordered two pikelets and a spaghetti cheesy.  As he stepped away from the counter Kayad passed over one of the pikelets to Sorrel first and then ate his own. He ignored William and Simon as they made purchases of their own and continued to trail along behind. Sorrel tired his pikelet and then happily consumed it in a few bites. Kayad carefully tore the cheesy in two and gave Sorrel half. As he ate Kayad started to lead the way back through the school. Out the other side of the veranda, around past the library to the back set of classrooms. “This is the place.” Kayad ate his last bite and licked the spaghetti sauce from his lips as he gestured at room 503 before he looked at Sorrel. Sorrel was in the process of licking the excess sauce from his hands as he nodded in response to Kayad’s gesture. Kayad liked his lips, then turned and walked to the drink vending machine at the side of the library. Ordering two juices he skulled half of one to cool down as he held the other out to Sorrel. “That was delicious.” Sorrel said as he took the drink. He opened the bottle and sipped slowly as Kayad nodded faintly. “Kay, can I have a moment?” Daylen’s voice interrupted Kayad’s focus. Kayad turned to look at his friend as he approached. When Daylen gestured that he wanted to go to the other side of the library to talk Kayad glanced at Sorrel and after he was assured that William and Simon still stood near Sorrel Kayad nodded and moved to go with Daylen around the library. “What?” Kayad demanded when they reached the far side of the library building and Daylen didn’t immediately start talking. “What the hell man? Ever since you met that –'' Daylen paused and altered the word he’d been about to say at the sudden sharpened look that Kayad directed at him. “boy, you have been f*****g weird. It's like you’re a different person around him. Some might say he’s going to make you weak.” Daylen finished and folded his arms across his chest. “People can say what they want outside my hearing and I’ll just deal with people who say things I don’t like the same way I always have.” Kayad responded. “See that right there. The hell it's like your protective over some b –” Kayad grabbed Daylen by the throat and pushed him against the wall. “Let's be clear where friends or you wouldn’t be getting this warning. He doesn’t need my protection but isn’t it normal to look after what you like. I’m not like you relationships like disposable goods. Like a nice car its relatively hard to do serious damage to them but if you really like it then you get annoyed at the slightest scratch. So don’t try and scratch.” Kayad released his hold and let Daylen drop to the ground. He liked his friend a little less than he had before. He should have known that despite the things that had changed it was still not the time for Daylen to grow up. Kayad should have realised that Daylen would still make the same mistakes. “Gah.” A muffled yell sounded from where Kayad had left Sorrel and he snarled as he raced back around the building.
