Dinner date? 2.17

Stepping in the door Sorrel realised that this was a very fancy restaurant and wondered if even in kitten form whether the familiars would be allowed in. Kayad strode ahead confidently up to the hostess and said, “Reservation for Rivera.” The hostess straightened her spine. “Right this way.” The hostess smiled sweetly as she led the way into the restaurant. Sorrel trailed behind Kayad until he reached behind him and pulled Sorrel up to his side as they reached a secluded booth towards the back. As they walked Sorrel noticed the other familiars on the shoulders and chairs of the various Other’s as well as the pets in the bags and laps of some of the humans. All the humans wore suits and seemed to be trying to flatter small groups of Others. Kayad gestured Sorrel into one side of the booth and then slid in opposite him and after he accepted the menu he waved the hostess off. “The leaders of the various clans often eat here and the human leaders like to come to schmooze with them.” Kayad explained as he settled Noir on the edge of the table. Sephy leaped down to sit side by side with Noir creating a pair of adorable table ornaments. Sorrel looked at the pages of the menu and his eyes widened with each page. At last Sorrel decided that he should use the status quo. Sorrel placed the menu down on the table and smiled at Kayad. Kayad laughed and shook his head before looking over the menu and waving the waiter over to quickly order. After that the two conversed lightly throughout the meal. They talked about the way classes had been going and the things others had said. Sorrel mentioned how Uncle Michael had gotten in trouble with Aunt Low and Kayad talked about how he was going back to his parents house to spend the next week instead of staying at the club house. It was a relaxing and easy conversation. When at last they finished and Kayad went to pay the bill Sorrel paused. Was this a date? It felt like a date but it could just be friends. If it had been a date then surely Kayad would have said so. So it was just a meal with friends. Then should he split the bill. Though this seemed an expensive choice for a meal with friends. Though it was a celebration…  Sorrel’s thoughts twisted and turned as he waited by the table trying to decide what sort of response he should have. By the time Kayad returned he didn’t have a good idea. His idea of dating was very limited; he knew it was a thing humans did for romantic relationships and that some acts were common to it such as kissing but he wasn’t sure if there was a definite roadmap for what constituted a date. “Ready?” Kayad asked and Sorrel mutely nodded. Eventually deciding that he’d wait for Kayad to say something. He was the human expert he would have to be the way to make things clear. When they headed back out to their bikes Sorrel paused at the large present sitting on his. “Ah?” he wondered and looked at Kayad. “A spare set for when you want a different colour.” Kayad said as he gestured for Sorrel to open the box. Lifting the lid Sorrel blinked and then laughed. A full set of leathers was fit snugly in the box, the entire set in cool black with white flower embroidery to match Sorrel’s bike. “Its great. But now what in the world do I get you in return.” Sorrel stroked the jacket before packing the stuff away in his saddle bags. He would wear them next time he came out. After he was sure that he wouldn’t get them dirty. “Oh, I’m sure that something will come up later.” Kayad replied. It was a bit of a mysterious response, but Sorrel really couldn’t think of another answer. Maybe he’d secretly ask Jasper or Daylen about what Kayad might want. They pair hopped onto their bikes and started them up. They slid out of the lot and onto the main road going steadily towards Shattered senses. As they turned around the last corner a car pulled out from in front of the club and swerved wildly across the road careening straight towards them. Instinctively Sorrel accelerated putting his bike between Kayad and the oncoming car and then planting his feet to brace his position. As the car collided with Sorrel the blue glow surrounded him and the two vehicles distorting space for a time and allowing the car to pass through Sorrel and Kayad before crashing into a street light though no damage was taken the car just stopped working. “Are you okay.” Sorrel rushed up and started to look at Sorrel over checking for injuries or damage. Sorrel smiled slightly happy that he’d been able to stop Kayad from getting hurt.  “I’m fine, let's get off the road first.” Sorrel waved over to the back of the club out of sight of the slowly gathering crowd.  “Right” Kayad waved his hand and casted for presence obscuration before he followed Sorrel in walking his bike across the road. At the back of the club Sorrel put the stand down on his bike and reached for the things in his saddle bag only to be interrupted as Kayad attempted to pat him down for injuries. “Really I’m fine. I just used a bit of mana reserve.” Sorrel pulled his braid around to indicate the missing flower. He felt that it would be recovered before monday but that it was really excessively costly to support Bellmore peach to protect himself, his bike and Kayak and his bike with making a pass through for the humans car.  Kayad stared at the spot where the flower used to be and his eyes darkened as he looked over at the ‘crashed’ car. “I didn’t realise your reflexes were so much faster than mine.” Kayad said. Sorrel blinked at the strange turn of topic before he nodded and replied, “Well, I’m not sure on a comparison but you did say that was what was giving me trouble trying to learn how to ride. Though it could just be that I was a bit hyper aware since I’m still new at this.” “Maybe, I’ll just have to pay more attention from now on.” Kayad muttered softly.
