Kayad looked up at the clatter of a chair falling over to see Vale struggling up from his seat that had fallen back on the floor after the front leg of it had been yanked out.
“I think I will put presence sense on the exam. It hurts me that my students don’t notice when I enter the room.” Dr Alfair commented as he dropped his cloaking to materialise in the centre of the room.
“Dr Alfair, are we doing a physical as well as written exam and are we covering the full six weeks of content or the units not assessed in the quarter assessment? Also what’s the note about top scorer additional credit competition?” Sorrel asked having not looked up from his notebook and spell text as he was breaking down the components of the common stealth spells.
“Hmm?” Dr Alfair raised a brow and turned to look at Sorrel. Suddenly Dr Alfair reactivated his concealment and disappeared once more. The remaining students looked around and started casting to try and determine his location. Kayad inhaled and let his beast to the surface. A metallic gleam rolled over his eyes before he focused his attention on Dr Alfair as he moved around the back of the classroom to come up and stand behind Sorrel
Sorrel in turn finished the breakdown he was doing before he straightened and turned to look over his shoulder and said “Dr Alfair?”
Once again Dr Alfair dropped his concealment this time with a pleased smile as he looked down at Sorrel. “The exam covers all the topics and spells we have covered so far in the course with a bonus question on the advanced concealment spell I used today.” Dr Alfair strolled back to the front of the class. “As for the additional credit, there is an interschool stealth magic competition run two weeks after midterm and as part of the school’s support for the project the top scorers in each year can participate and earn extra credits. Though participation is voluntary.” As Dr Alfair added the last sentence he stared at Kayad who had declined to participate at all last year.
Kayad shrugged in response. He had no interest in a game of glorified hide and seek with a bit of tag thrown in with a bunch of arrogant pricks. Though it was different this year. A wilderness date with Sorrel was a must though he’d have to plan carefully since unlike a human Sorrel wouldn’t be concerned about squeezing into a tent to avoid the mosquitos or the cold. Still, he believed he’d be able to come up with something.
“Okay, that sounds interesting.” Sorrel responded and made another note in his book before moving on to the next circle he wanted to decode. Dr Alfair nodded before he illustrated a spell breakdown of the basic concealment spell and the typical methods to advance a spell.
Kayad took notes on what Dr Alfair said and then went on to make adjustment notes for the advancement of other stealth spells. After he finished the explanations Kayad promptly passed the book over to Sorrel to read while Kayad accepted the exercise sheets and practical challenges that were set for the class's homework.
Sorrel looked over Kayad’s notes and then turned to a different chapter in the textbook while accepting the exercises. Kayad smiled and started on his own exercises in time with Sorrel until the bell for lunch rang.
Kayad waited for Sorrel to pack up before leading the way first to their bags where they put their things away before Sorrel settled down to wait while Kayad went to the canteen since Sorrel had bought recess. It was Kayad’s turn to get lunch.
After Kayad grabbed lunch he met up with Jasper and Daylen who waited hand in hand at the bottom of the veranda steps. Kayad rolled his eyes. It was almost nauseating how well they got along now though Daylen still got embarrassed easily.
“Hey you two, be careful the cherubs don’t see you or you’ll never have been so popular.” Kayad said. Daylen immediately withdrew his hand and looked around suspiciously. Jasper just rolled his eyes and replied.
“Just because your still stalking your prey doesn’t mean you need to jab at other people.” Jasper returned as he stroked Daylen’s back in comfort. Though the effect was lessened when Daylen whipped his head around and stared first and Jasper before he shifted his focus to Kayad.
“Wait, they're not dating yet? But they're clearly dating.” Daylen said with a confused look.
“You forget Sorrel is very new to human norms. If Kayad doesn’t say anything explicit Kayad likely won’t make a connection.” Jasper explained.
Daylens eyes widened before he scowled at Kayad.
“You're clearly interested and he’s not resistant. Why haven’t you asked?” Daylen demanded having become close to Sorrel over the past few weeks.
“A couple of reason’s. one Sorrel needs the chance to settle into human life, two I need him to be attached enough to me to really try as opposed to just giving it a go.” Kayad responded.
In the first life Sorrel had met the sidhe prince early on who’d asked him out but Sorrel hadn’t understood the meaning of dating and the prince eventually became frustrated while Sorrel got confused. Kayad wanted Sorrel to be sure and so while he didn’t enjoy the waiting he settled for just being close and having all the feel of dating without the official title just yet.
