The next four were laughably easy. It was only when they reached the seventh that there was a challenge. It was the Archdemon. Sorrel stepped from the wilds just in time to see him knockout Blaine. While the last of the Feyskin’s group was pinned to a nearby tree.
“hmm, now that is an interesting skill. You clearly knew I was here but no mana fluctuations for your movement.” The Archdemon commented as he stared towards Kayad as he stepped into view. Sorrel was obscured by the trees and he remained out of sight at Kayad’s slight gesture.
“you’re just the opposite flinging mana all over the place, like it's going out of fashion.” Kayad replied as he looked over to the struggling Feyskin.
“How interesting. I’m Marvin and you must be Kayad.” The archdemon introduced himself as he moved closer to Kayad. “Given Teachers obsessive dossier’s I had expected more from this competition but so far the others have been lackluster. You though, you might exceed expectations. I didn’t expect to see another with three ‘kills’ already.” Marvin continued as he leaned into Kayad’s personal space.
“How about you be mine?” Marvin asked as he waved a hand and caused the Feyskin to pass out.
Sorrel consciously loosed his grasp on the branch as he re-examined the Demonskin. Still looked plain so not going to be more physically appealing that Sorrel. Not to mention he seemed a bit sleezy, and not serious where he should be. Sorrel nodded to himself as he convinced himself that there was nothing appealing about the stupid archdemon.
“How about. No.” Kayad responded as he remained stationary. It was clear that he refused to give ground to the shorter man.
“No? why not? am I not your type? Shall I change my look then?” Marvin tilted his head and then his figure blurred and a slightly taller blond with lean muscles reformed. When Kayad remained, unmoved Marvin laughed. “Still not. Oh, I do love a challenge. Oooh, are you one of those enamoured ones? They're always the most fun.” Marvin laughed to himself and Sorrel bemoaned his first impression.
With how the man had been waiting at the start Sorrel had expected the serious silent type, but no it was an obnoxious flirt. Sorrel could not believe how the guy just kept flirting with Kayad when he clearly wasn’t interested. Not to mention that comment that promised to break up any couple he encountered if one caught his interest. Grr, Sorrel wanted to beat him black and blue and then serve him up for wolf stew.
“Hmm, if you really are going to be hard to get, how about a challenge. Where both at the same starting point and so there should be seven competitors left. The person with the highest score at the end fulfils a condition of the loser.” Marvin’s smile was irritating.
So much so that Sorrel unilaterally decided that he wasn’t going to let Marvin get any more points at all let alone get more points than Kayad.
Nodding to himself Sorrel didn’t wait to see how Kayad responded but instead shifted back into the wilds. Sorrel sprinted along the tangle of roots and then shifted out in a dive tackling his target. Sorrel spun around and slammed the guy into the tree. When the guy went limp Sorrel released his hold and slid back into the wilds.
The remaining five were further afield. So, Sorrel started off in a steady lope. Space was shorter here but still; he didn’t want to chance the potential for Marvin to steal a kill.
Sorrel stepped out to find the next two fighting each other. Sorrel contemplated subtlety for all of a minute. Then screw subtle Sorrel wanted results and he wanted the satisfaction of having thoroughly stamped out Marvin’s chances of being anything but a loser.
As the pair struggled closer to where Sorrel stood, he stepped out. They jumped apart to look at him vigilantly. Sorrel smiled benignly. The pair looked at each other and then jumped at Sorrel.
Sorrel intercepted the punch on one of them while he shifted to the side and allowed his hair to whip around the neck of the other. Sorrel then twisted the wrist and tossed the first into the trees. Simultaneously he flicked a kick at the middle of the one caught by his hair and tossed them up. AS his hair unwound Sorrel flipped and slammed a second kick down on the back of the head.
As Sorrel landed, he ducked and tripped the first one over his back before chopping down on the neck. With the pair piled unconscious together on the floor Sorrel dusted his hands and left.
Sorrel worried that the final three would be spread apart and giving an opportunity for points to Marvin, or that they might have taken each other out with the remaining creating an opportunity for the crafty demon. However, when he stepped back into the wilds, he found a cluster of people. What felt like Kayad and Marvin as well as five others.
Eyes narrowed in concern Sorrel approached carefully. He stepped out amidst the cage of branches of an oak tree. Immediately he understood the reason for the cluster. The three other competitors that Sorrel had been hunting were all together hidden amongst the greenery. While Kayad and Marvin where bother crouched in the shadows of the canopy as they waited for an opportunity. While the stand off positions resulted from the fact that two supervisors circled the area, the Feyskin and the Lionskin glared at each other and then patrolled around.
Sorrel smirked. Hehe, this was his time to shine. Sorrel slipped back into the wilds and emerged directly behind the first of the three. He jabbed neatly with a needle into the neck and then faded back into the wilds. He followed up with the second and then the third. As he stepped back from the final strike the first of the three hit the ground. His fall cushioned by the shrub bellow so that he didn’t even receive extra scratches.
Satisfied Sorrel faded away again in search of a good place to sleep. The game was essentially over. So long as Kayad didn’t have a sudden motor neuron failure that would allow Marvin to take him in a fight then it was just a matter of waiting for the competition to end. Though for some reason Sorrel decided that he didn’t want to wait with Kayad. Not like it mattered they’d meet again once the competition was over anyway.
