Sephy watched and snickered as her contractor attempted to play volleyball. It was Sorrel and Meg versus Eddy. Apparently because Meg was the better player since even with the severe handicap that was Sorrel, Meg was still keeping an even score with Eddy.
The competitive gleam in Eddy’s eyes suggested that he wasn’t making concessions for Sorrel’s ineptitude. Sephy raised a wing and snicked again as Eddy picked the ball across the net and Sorrel moved to intercept getting his hands to it the ball bounced off his hands and then backwards further into their zone.
Somehow Meg managed to reach the ball before it hit into the water but when she bounced the ball up again and Sorrel sifted to try and ‘help’ he succeeded only in bouncing the ball forward to just before the net. As good as Meg was teleportation wasn’t permissible in the human game and so the ball hit the water and Eddy scored another point.
Sephy caught the brief scent of feathers and fur and turned her attention away from Sorrel to look at the entrance. She wanted to wrinkle her nose and try to get a better scent but a beak or bill if she wanted to be technical was not really designed to do that.
Through the entrance came a pair of boys. One was oriental in look with dark hair and pale skin. Though his eyes were mischievous and sky blue. As he walked he nudged the other and said something as he laughed. The other boy was blonde with sun kissed skin and the blue of the deep ocean.
Sephy was sure that the oriental boy was a water dragon. The tie of nature was strong that she was assured of that immediately. Something on the other though felt familiar. Yet the more Sephy looked the less she could place her paw on what it was that tugged at her. He was a bit like Kayad but also not.
If she’d had her ears she would have flicked them as it was she had to rely on the vague voices that carried over the pools.
“Come on Adie, someone will think you’re a grump if you don’t lighten up soon.” The oriental boy said as he exaggeratedly lifted the sides of his lips.
“Chris, keep your cheer to yourself or i'll give you an express trip home.” The sun touched boy called Adie replied.
“Chris, tch no wonder people don’t invite you places. No fun at all.” Chris muttered as the pair reached the grass area adjacent to where Sephy had settled to sun herself so that there was a clear view of Sorrel’s ‘lessons’.
“I have something hilarious then.” Kayad responded as the pair dropped their bags and towels. Before Chris could make any comment Kayad grabbed him bodily around the waist and tossed him into the pool. Adie dived in afterwards and passed directly by where Chris had landed. Thus when Chris came up spluttering and swearing Kayad was standing behind him.
“what the hell, how was that funny?” Chris demanded as he spun around to face Adie.
“I thought it was hilarious. I particularly appreciated the look of shocked horror that crossed your face just before you hit the water. You're an aquatic type, what’s with all the whining.” Adie responded with a smirk.
Sephy chortled as she decided that this new pair was almost as entertaining to watch as Sorrel ‘playing’ volleyball. With that thought in mind Sephy turned back to look at Sorrel just in time to see the ball smack solidly into his face as he failed to deflect the wet plastic when his hands were too far apart.
Sorrel toppled back in the water from the sudden impact combined with the unsteady footing he had from his jump at the ball. By some strange karma Sorrel fell back directly into Adie’s arms. At some point Aide must have sensed the motion behind him and turned to catch Sorrel as he tumbled backwards.
“thankyou.” Sorrel said as he steadied himself. A grin stretched his lips despite the catastrophe that the game was becoming.
“No problem, the main point of a game is to have a good time.” Adie replied as he pulled his hands back.
“Well I’m definitely trying to. They tell me I’ll improve with practice. I think the Jury’s still out.” Sorrel replied as he turned back to look over at Meg and Eddy.
“Well I’m always up for some fun. How about we join in. I’ll join the other side and Adie here can work with you two.” Chris asked as he came over with the ball.
“Oh, I’m really new and really bad at this so…” Sorrel started to explain only to be interrupted.
“It’s fine. I play quite well, and the gecko needs some humility. Get to the other side then.” Adie said as he shoved Chris’s shoulder. Chris laughed as he took the ball and went over to Eddy’s side of the net.
As the game began again Sephy felt a tendril wrap around her leg before she was abruptly yanked to the back of the bathroom block. She stretched her neck down and ripped the tentacle away before looking up at the leviathan that clung to the side of the building and leered down at her.
*Revenge will be mine. What you going to do now ugly.* the Leviathan asked. As it waved its tentacles at her.
*I was thinking I should look for lunch and the menu delivered itself. One serve of fried squid with a side of seasoned squid rings coming up.* As she spoke Sephy released her true form and then lunged.
