Sephy glided from tree to tree within the serenity garden. *It seems that this vine is going to be difficult to deal with. Sorrel was right to have me inspect. *
After examining the trees Sephy moved down to the ground pawing at the earth piece by piece. When she found a section of freshly turned earth, she stopped to sniff at it and mentally marked its position.
*Find something? * Noir asked as she dropped down from the tree with a bag of donuts in her mouth.
*More Traces, not the place it was planted yet. * Sephy shook her head and settled on her haunches as Noir placed the bag down.
*Should it be bigger to eat? * Noir wondered as she opened the bag and the two fished out a donut each with their tails.
*No. We can enjoy it better at this size* Sephy replied as she started nibbling on her donut bit by bit. *Oh, before I forget do tell Kayad that this Sorrel is not that Sorrel. *
Noir stuttered mid chomp and chomped her tail instead of the donut. *Cough, Cough. What what do you mead… mean. *
*Wow be careful. * Sephy carefully pulled Noir’s tail over and examined it.
*It's fine, not fleshy so it doesn’t hur…Owie, owie tail hurts really hurts. * Noir widened its eyes until they watered and then squinted them, so she looked like she was crying.
*There there. It will heal quickly* Sephy said gently as she blew across the tail before releasing it. *I just wanted you to remind Kayad that time cannot run backwards, thus for a gift a sacrifice needed to be made. That Sorrel sacrificed his chance at remembering and since the environment here is different then this Sorrel cannot be the same. * As she finished speaking Sephy fluttered her petals before standing up as she looked around.
*uh, right. I’ll… I’ll… tell him. * Noir said as he wrapped up the remaining donuts in the bag and settled it by the tree with a basic shield. Sephy waited until Noir turned back towards her and then started looking around again.
Sephy started in the relatively open areas first paying particular attention to the raised garden beds and hedges. Sometimes she pawed at the dirt other times she pulled a root up and examined it. At last, having circled around the garden three times Sephy stopped at the edge and looked over at the botanical garden.
*Something? * Noir asked as she approached from behind.
*I can find no trace of the vine having been planted here. * Sephy tapped the ground. *Yet the tendrils and sightings have only been here. so, the roots cannot be too far away but most of the other areas near here are flat and open. * Sephy murmured as it surveyed around and then raised a paw to start forward.
~Sephy, can you go to the obstacle course if you’re not busy? ~ Sorrel’s voice sounded from along the bond and Sephy lowered her paw back to the ground and smiled. This was the nicest contractor she had ever had. So polite.
~I can, you wish to use the like-to-like transfer. ~ Sephy responded as she turned around and headed back through the Serenity Garden to the other side of the school grounds.
~Please, I don’t want to walk the wilds as its effect on time fluctuates. ~ Sorrel responded. Sephy laughed, wild walking through the path between the woods was a manipulation of time and space. Thus, since plants do not care about the passage of time in the same way that humans did it was an even split chance as to whether the trip was quick or let you out sometime next year.
~Leave it to me~ Sephy replied and then settled into an easy lope at the far end of the forest. She jumped into a tree and then onto the roof. As she leaped over the secondary building to the other side of bathroom block Sephy spotted Dr Alfair as he prowled across the rooftops.
Deciding to keep to the shadows Sephy headed over to the obstacle course before settling down in the shadows of the slide. ~I’m here~
~Alright, transferring~ Sorrel responded and Sephy felt a tug on the bond before Sorrel formed out of a shimmer of leaves. “Thanks.” Sorrel stroked along Sephy’s neck and then picked her up.
Sorrel strolled out and into the obstacle course minutes after Kayad. With Sephy still on her shoulders Sorrel shifted to a run and moved smoothly through the course. It was actually more complicated trying to visit Grandma Birch when she was in a bad mood.
As Sorrel excited the other side it was just in time to See Dr Alfair marching Blain over. Kayad waved Sorrel over to his side and smiled as he reached out to caress Sephy’s head. “That was not a solution I would have thought of. Though Noir may not have been as willing to help anyway.” Kayad commented.
“Meow.” Noir objected as it jumped onto Kayad’s head from the top of the monkey bars. “Hmm, I think I’m correct though.” Kayad laughed as he reached up and brought Noir down to eye level and then shifted her to sit on his shoulder.
“Perfect score you two. Sorrel, a bonus point for ingenuity transferring to your familiar is a relatively advanced skill in itself, so I will let Dr Northwood know that you demonstrated capability with it.” Dr Alfair said as he approached them.
Sephy preened. Naturally, her master was talented in this since he had already grown used to the wild walk; how could a mean contract transfer be hard. Humans really did have strange criteria.
*Can I have bacon tonight? * Sephy asked as she curled her tail around Sorrel’s neck.
“Sure, bacon with tea it is.” Sorrel responded with a laugh as they headed back to their bags to pack up and then leave.
