A beating not a fight 2.7

Sorrel inhaled the first rush of pale blue magic and closed his eyes. A strong impact around his waist jolted him as he was swung into the air and the person who had grabbed him rushed off. Sorrel felt the person’s arm tremble and shoulder sag as the steps became heavier with Sorrel’s weight. His nature sight opened on its own and he looked the ogre over. Not even full blooded but still able to lug Sorrel around was indeed impressive but not threatening. When the ogre entered the woods, Sorrel relaxed and focused on analysing the effects of the sleep spell he had ingested. It was powdered magic. Having used several desiccated analgesic plant’s sap and then overlaying them with a sorcerer’s spell circle to improve the effect and then containing them in a mage spell orb to be used by anyone. The wonders of human ingenuity never cease. Though Sorrel did feel a bit bad for them. For all that, his physiology was recognizably human, he wasn’t and so while he rested it was not a human sleep and to use drugs, even magic enhanced ones, was significantly difficult. Nonna Yew had assured him that if nothing she produced worked. Then only when the humans could construct a purely synthetic drug that had no resemblance to naturally occurring chemicals would there be cause for concern about effects on Sorrel. As the ogre fled through the woods Sorrel watched as Kayad came in pursuit. It was the first time that Sorrel had actually looked at Kayad properly with his nature sight. While he knew he was a Beastskin and felt he was likely a mythic type, the expressions of Kayad’s beast in Sorrel’s sight was not something he recognised from descriptions he had been given. Large ears from the top of his head that swivelled as he moved. There was a slight resemblance to both Al and the Foxskin twins. Down his arms wings flowed out from the sides not wings for true flight but short glides and faster momentum were definitely a result. Lastly two long fluffy tails trailed behind him. Sorrel could see the ferocity in the pursuit. It was quite likely that if the matter continued that Kayad would ignore the place and time and move for a kill. Sorrel determined that it would be best to prevent that and so placed his arms on the back of the ogre and twisted his body. The ogre was unable to maintain his grip and Sorrel flipped off his back landing solidly on the ground amongst the peppercorn trees. Sorrel stepped to the side and rested his back against one of the trees as the ogre turned back towards him. “Hmm, you recovered well. No matter, we shall use you to deal with that arrogant –” the rest of his sentence was cut off as Kayad came round a tree and lunged at the ogre and knocked him back away from Sorrel. “Oliver, if you wanted a beating all you had to do was ask.” Kayad said with a smile. Kayad glanced back and nodded when Sorrel smiled at him. Sorrel was not sure why Kayad had gotten so pissed off over Oliver Oliver’s actions when he seemed rather unconcerned about Carla. “Hmph, Kayad you’re the one handing a weakness over to others. You shouldn’t be surprised that we want to take advantage.” Oliver said as he straightened and swung his arms. While Sorrel was unclear about the actual relationships between them he was sure that Oliver had said the wrong thing since Kayad abruptly lunged forward, grabbed Oliver and threw him bodily into a tree. From there the fight or rather one-sided beating continued with Oliver attempting to grab a hold of Kayad only for Kayad to step aside and toss Oliver into different trees. With the last throw Oliver stayed down just as Jasper rounded a tree to stand next to Sorrel. “Well it seems that I am superfluous.” Jasper said as he shook his head when he looked at the downed Oliver. “In the fight perhaps, but I am glad that you bothered to come my friend.” Kayad inhaled deeply as he stepped back from Oliver and looked over at Jasper before his sight settled on Sorrel. “All fine?” he asked. “Yes, the sleep spell was well constructed. I like the blend ratio of devil’s claw and mint that they used. Though I might have to ask Simon to deconstruct the spell circle. I can tell that it was to boost power but how I’m not sure.” Sorrel replied. The way that he had been taught to make potions didn’t inherently include the addition of precision magic formula over the chemical balance. “Well, as long as you’re happy then.” Kayad said his shoulder relaxed as he approached. Sorrel stepped away from the tree to greet him while checking the time. “I believe it is almost the end of recess so we should head back.” Sorrel said and turned to go back through the woods brushing a hand against the trees in thanks for their support. When he saw that Daylen waited a few feet behind Jasper Sorrel shrugged. He hardly expected everyone to like him; he would just choose to only associate with the people that he liked and that liked him in return. Sorrel nodded indifferently at Daylen. He was Kayad and Jasper’s friend so Sorrel wouldn’t outright ignore him but Sorrel also felt no need to have any prolonged association. Before Sorrel reached the edge of the woods Kayad and Jasper caught up with him. Outside the woods William and Simon waited the pair visibly relaxed when Sorrel came back in sight. As they walked back to their bags Kayad grabbed Sorrel’s hand and leaned in to whisper. “I’m quite good at spell circles myself if you draw it out I can give you my take as well?” Kayad leaned back with a smile when Sorrel looked at him. Sorrel nodded and once he reached his bag he pulled out a blank notebook and drew a spell circle out on three separate pages. Turning he held one out to Kayad who took it immediately before holding the others to Simon and William. The pair frowned, clearly confused. “It’s the power boosting formula used in the sleep spell earlier,” Sorrel explained. The two abruptly straightened and reached out only for one of the copies to be snatched by Jasper.   “You two share classes so you can share the circle to examine. I’m not in classes with any of you so I need one myself.” Jasper said with a haughty sniff just as the bell tolled.
