The remaining exams and the rest of the term were eerily trouble free. There were no surprises in the final term exams and no repeated appearance of the vine. The potion had been finished but needed to be applied to the roots which Sorrel had yet to be able to find. Leaving him in the awkward situation of carrying a small shimmering blue vial around with him everywhere he went.
The first week of the break Kayad said that it was just right to go to the amusement park. So, he conscientiously invited the head members of Riven Time and the members of Bloodied Petal’s to go together on the weekend.
At first Jasper stuttered a response to say he had something to do but was drowned out by Daylen’s excitement before Daylen outed him as being very free. Kayad smiled quietly at Jasper who then weekly agreed. While Sorrel excitedly prepared a bag with a water bottle and a change of clothes and a hat, he overheard William and Simon as they talked.
“Going to the park is fine but I will have to buy new bathers.” William muttered as he looked around.
“Right. Still, it will be a fun roller-coaster and waterslides and when we want to take a break, we can go in the lagoon pool. I’m super pumped.” Simon responded.
Sorrel’s hands paused. Bathers were used when swimming. There was no need to swim in Saige park, so Sorrel had never tried. He flicked his eyes to one side then the other and then pulled his phone out and sent a message to his uncle asking a question.
After receiving an answer Sorrel set his bag aside and headed into his room at the club house. He didn’t use the room much and so it had become something of a frangipani spawn point with the flowers growing excessively. However, the plants twisted aside as Sorrel dragged out his schoolwork and hurriedly worked through all of the homework.
Once done he sighed and sent a message to Kayad saying that he would be busy studying for the next few days to get this work done before they went to play and so couldn’t hang out. When Kayad responded that they could study together Sorrel declined and then rushed downstairs with his bag.
“I’m going back to get my studies done before the weekend.” Sorrel called over his shoulder as he dashed out the door and accepted his bike from Cleo as she lifted it out of the warehouse. Sorrel disappeared out of the BIRD district and headed back to Shattered Senses.
As he parked his bike he fished his phone out and ignored the series of messages from Kayad on it as he turned it off. Rather than entering the club Sorrel moved further around the building and waited for his Uncle to pull up in his car.
Sorrel tossed his bag in the back and then hopped into the passenger seat. Michael smiled at him as he put the car back into gear and then gestured to the shopping bag at his feet. Before Sorrel could look into the back there was a tug on his bond with Sephy who then appeared on his shoulders. Extending her neck out Sephy eyed Sorrel curiously.
*I was in the games room playing the racing game with the mushroom people when I felt the bond stretch as you left. What was the hurry?*
“Sorry Sephy, I realised that I’ll need to swim when I go to the amusement park and that I don’t know how.” Sorrel offered his apology as he lifted Sephy down into his lap to run his fingers over her wings.
*Ah, well it shouldn’t be too difficult for you. At least unlike the human’s you won’t drown quickly.* Sephy fluffed her wings and curled up in Sorrels lap before adding. *This park of the humans seems interesting. It is a pity that they have restrictions against animals.*
Sorrel nodded but Michael interrupted, “while it's true they won’t let you bring a pet in there are always birds flying in and around the parks.”
“Ooh, so if Sephy disguises she can fly in and then we can just run a sight aversion spell over her so that people won’t really notice her. I couldn’t think of a way to trick the human’s scanning machines but if she can simply avoid them all together it won’t be a problem.” Sorrel laughed and rubbed his hands together.
Sephy sat up straight and shifted from foot to foot. *How exciting I’ve never been to this kind of place before. Oh, oh. I should practice my bird look and swimming as well* as she spoke Sephy pulled her magic around her and the small plant dragon shimmered to be replaced by an average looking black duck. *not the most elegant of looks, but beginners should start at the beginning.* Sephy commented as she turned her head to preen her feathers.
Sorrel nodded seriously in agreement and reached into the bag to pull out the pair of bather shorts and the instructional booklet on swimming as well as general pool safety. He then noticed a small spell book at the bottom of the bag and glanced at it. The title read ‘time and water manipulation the best way to swim’ by Selena Siren.
