Exam Sabotage 2.27

843 Words
Sorrel and Kayad arrived late to school on Monday as they were held up by an unfortunate road rage incident in one of the few blocks with now available detours. Thankfully though the exam timetable they had received the night before said that their first maths exam was not until second period. However, when they reached the maths room, they found Dr Northwood standing at the door waiting for them. “The exam has already started. You will have less time, so you’d best get started.” Dr Northwood said with a sweep of his eyes.  Sorrel’s eyes widened and he dropped his bag on the ground before heading into the room with his little bag of exam supplies. Sorrel headed straight for his seat but as he passed the front row, he heard a soft chuckle and glanced over to see Suzie’s shoulders shaking as she worked. Sorrel settled in the seat with his name on it and decided that needs must for speed over enjoying the experience. Sorrel placed his hand on the exam paper and absorbed all the questions. Then flipping to the first page he tapped on his calculator and wrote with his other hand filling out each question quickly and efficiently.  With ten minutes to go Sorrel hurried to write down the formula for the bonus question as he made the calculations on the side. As he wrote the last number and set the pen down, he sighed under his breath. The whole process had been so hurried that he hadn’t even had the time to be stressed.  As Sorrel flexed his fingers, he looked around the room to see most of the students still writing. Kayad though was looking over at him from the other side of the room and when he spotted Sorrel looking at him, he nodded once and flicked his eyes towards the front.  Sorrel faced forward and found Dr Northwood standing at the front of the room as his eyes scanned over the students. In his left hand was a small piece of green paper. It flipped slightly in the breeze from the air conditioner and Sorrel realised it was Kayad’s copy of their exam timetable.  Sorrel had printed out two copies at his Uncle’s place when they received the email before Kayad had gone home. Uncle Michael only had the mint green peaceful paper that he used for flyers in the printer and so that was what had been used. Dr Northwood caught Sorrel’s eyes and nodded slightly. Sorrel saw the brewing storm in his eyes and determined that it would be wise to not get in his way. When the bell went, and the exam time ended the students filed out to eat before they had their next exam. As Sorrel exited, he heard the snide comment, “So fancy, half an hour late and still acting all impressive with being ‘finished’ early. I wonder if you’ll get first from the end.” Suzie muttered as she brushed past. The girl hurried away before Kayad could grab her or say anything. “I will look into this and personally send you your corrected timetable” Dr Northwood said quietly as he stood at the door of the classroom. “I know your English exam is at 1pm and you don’t have any others today.” Dr Northwood continued before pulling to door closed. “My bad this time. I never would have expected someone to mess with the timetable. After all, only the faculty have the ability to edit the timetables. Since the email came from the school’s official system it had to be edited before sending or the person is a hacker I suppose.” Kayad explained softly as they picked up their bags and started down the corridor. “If it’s a hacker they must be really bored.” Sorrel laughed and shook his head not taking the issue to heart at all. “It would just be failing one exam what would it matter.” “Normally not much but it might be grounds to demand a transfer of classes or if low enough even suggest and change of schools.” Kayad responded. “Well, that’s interesting. I thought it might be a student inciting a or bribing a teacher, but you are being in this academy or not should make a difference to your student competitors.” Sorrel wondered allowed as they exited the building onto the veranda. “that’s true. Though I honestly don’t recall doing anything that would annoy a teacher enough to try and boot us.” Kayad frowned as they set the bags down. “Then I guess I can be assured that the person feeding the vine is a teacher and not a misguided student.” Sorrel dropped his bag and changed his things over in preparation for the later English exam.
