After the door closed with a small thud, Gemma couldn’t help but smile. Everything was finally falling into place, this was going to be her life. Sure she had to talk to Baden about her past at some point, but for now she had been accepted by Baden’s Pack and took position as Luna at his side. Tonight she would be introduced to the packs, and thank god that for right now that did not include the Rocky Mountains Pack. She was not yet in a state where she could see Kai and her father again. To be honest she didn’t know if she would ever be ready to see them again.
Turning she walked to the couch plopping herself down unable to contain her happiness. From her position she could see a dress had hanging on the door of the wardrobe which she had brushed past before. The gown inside was a dark blue, she had peaked through the bag window when moving past. Though she didn’t dare open the bag without Sarah, knowing she had spent much time preparing the dress and would be along soon anyway to help her get ready.
A smile pulling at her lips she couldn’t help but release a giggle as a little knock sounded on the door before the door opened revealing Alex and Alicia. Standing a little to quickly due to her excitement Gemma almost stumbled forwards. Alex held a breakfast tray, as he walked swiftly to place on to the table in front of the couch. Gemma walked straight to Alicia, “hey how are you going? Did you sleep well?” Gemma really wanted to get closer to Alicia, try to help grow closer with Alex. Imagining Baden showing that kind of distance towards her, sent her heart into knots. Alicia appeared grateful to be noticed as she stepped forwards towards Gemma, “umm yes, we slept very well. Are you excited for tonight?”
“To be honest I’m quite nervous, but yes excited as well. I’m not sure how much you know about Alex and my childhood, but we never quite belonged.” Gemma felt Alex stiffen beside her having dropped off the try, before trailing to her side. “Though now, well everything seems to be heading into a brighter future.”
Wanting Alex and Alicia relationship to work and prosper as her own had. Gemma built her courage knowing the other nights talk may have very much upset Alicia. Gemma reached out taking her hands, as her eyes filled with sincerity. “Alicia I want us to be friends, good friends. Alex is lucky to have you by his side.” Maintaining eye contact she noticed a flash of emotion on Alicia’s face, pain even disgust maybe. Writing it off as surprise Gemma turned to the tray moving towards it like a wolf stalking her prey. “Thank you for breakfast, I’m starving. I feel like I have not eaten in weeks”
Seeing Alex move to Alicia’s side, Gemma subconsciously smiled not looking directly as he appeared to whisper lowly in her ear. Alicia expression turned to one of defeat as she left the room without so much as a goodbye. “Alex what was that?”
“I needed to speak with you, she was in the way.” Alex’s tone held clarity and not an ounce of regret. Gemma gritted her teeth, she loved this brother of hers. Thought to be his mate would be very difficult, he didn’t seem to care for her at all as he neglected his feelings. “G I told her quietly didn’t I, I tried..”, an audible sigh left his chest before he made his way over to sit next to Gemma.
Using a soft tone Alex turned to Gemma, “tonight you know they will most likely be attending. Both Kai and father. Have you spoken to Baden about it, he should uninvite them. At least until you are ready to face them. Or he may just destroy the pack.” Alex added on a whim thinking of how protective he appeared to be over her.
Realizing this was the reason for sending Alicia from the room, Gemma silently thanked him for the foresight of this conversation. Even if Alicia knew of their childhood, it was not something she was happy or ready to discuss for that matter. Gosh she didn’t even tell Alex exactly what happened at times and he respected that. Never once did he push her for an explanation, but Baden would. She didn’t even want to imagine what he would do, which is exactly why she had not spoken to him about it. Well that and they had enough of other issues to deal with recently.
“I was in Baden’s office the other day and saw the list, they are not attending.” Gemma reached over taking Alex’s hand, “thank you though, for thinking of me.” Alex released a sigh of relief, it was clear this had been on his mind for a while. Draping an arm around her he hugged her tightly.
“God I thought I would have to speak with Baden about it, he kept refusing to let me see you this morning.” Ruffling a hand though his hair, he appeared much more at ease. “Eat and I’ll see you tonight, you will be amazing.” Alex stood placing a kiss to her hair before moving towards the door exiting the room.
“Alex..” Gemma hesitated, “I know it’s none of my business. Alex you have got to know how you are treating her, it’s not right. Whether you feel a bond or not, you might later and regret..”
Cutting her off Alex raised a hand, “Gemma I love you, but my mate is my business. I feel no bond, nor love and I will deal with Alicia as I see fit. She is lucky I have allowed her to stay by my side for her wolf.” Without another word Alex left, Gemma’s heart wrenched for Alicia. How could her own brother be so, well cold and cruel.
