Chapter 41 - Childhood Bonds

1023 Words
As the elevator doors opened Amelia tossed Alicia’s body out, without a second thought or ounce of care. Stepping back inside she took the lift back down to the basement of the bunker. With a new sense of urgency, Amelia raced back to the table. Gemma lay there unconscious, soon she would be dead, but not before Amelia got what she wanted. Having already cut off Gemma’s bond with Baden there was only a few more step to complete before she was ready for Baden to arrive. Amelia was side tracked by the image of him in her mind. Seeing her again, she was sure he would take her into his arms… taking her home with their child. All she needed now was to free her child from this witch, and mark Baden. There had been whispers in recent years about the marking of males. When marked they would become infatuated and grow to love and obsess over the female who marked them, mate or not. This was always her plan, it was just getting close enough. Then Gemma arrived at his pack and ruined her plans, she even dared to carry his child. She would die for it, she would never leave this basement alive. ***** Alex mind linked his second as he shifted, sprinting west. A team was put together, hot on his heels only a few minutes behind. Alex left the second he heard to reach the bunker with haste Alex’s paws pounded on the forest floor pushing him faster, his link to Gemma slowly fading. She was holding onto a cliff by a thin rope, with a lunatic atop the cliff. Alex wanted to blame Baden for this, for everything, but it was his fault. He should have left that ballroom with Gemma. He should have taken her from Zac, but he wanted to see the fates of Kai and his father. Watching their demise was almost as satisfying as if he had done it himself. They suffered and he could not leave to support her, relishing too much in the kill. That was the first time Alex had thought well of Baden, that he could protect and shelter his little sister. As children Alex and Gemma were both pushed to the brink of death in training. Alex to be Beta of the Pack and Gemma, well at the time it was said she would be Luna. It was not apparent till they both grew up a little they came to understand their pack would never have a Luna. Kai their Alpha, only 10 years older than Alex himself, had his breeders in place of a Luna. His breeders were the strongest she wolves he could get his hands on. Ten to twenty at a time kept in the basement in disgustingly unhygienic circumstances. He shared them with other strong males of the pack to produce the strongest offspring. Boys kept and trained as warriors, the females mostly sold off to other packs or human researchers. He was a monster, a disgusting piece of scum who deserved what he got, to be wiped from the face of the Earth. The way he used to stare at Gemma, waiting for her to willingly go to him was utterly and in-ragingly disgusting. Alex would never going to let that happen, not when he was around. Though their parents had encouraged Gemma to become a breeder, with privileges of course, they were disappointed to say the least when she had declined, continually avoiding Kai and her responsibilities. Alex stayed with Gemma, protecting her from her side for as long and often as possible. They were closer than close, their wolves sibling like they were. They had a bond nobody could ever sever. A bond of blood. He had promised that he would protect her for as long as he lived. Being a Beta in training, he had frequented the basement and the she wolves that resided their in their little cells. He had been encouraged to mate them, to create strong offspring for the pack, but that was never going to happen. He would never touch those poor creatures and he would die before he allowed Gemma to end up down there, kept in the dark away from the pack. That was until Alex was sent away for pack business. Away for months, when he felt the bond of Gemma snap from the pack, he rushed back regardless of the fact that he had not completed his tasks. Punishment was harsh and swift. It saw him locked up for weeks before he was released. Instantly abandoning the pack, his position and parents forgotten he searched for her. He had been told that she continued to reject Kai, attacking him with no standing. It was said that she ran away, but he didn’t, couldn’t believe that. Always thinking she was sold off and waiting somewhere for him to find her. The memories flowing through his mind, remembering the pain of having lost her, it was like losing a part of himself. She was more important then anything, more important than life itself. Throughout their entire childhood she was always there for him when nobody else was. They kept each other grounded throughout the trauma and abuse of their childhood. When he lost her last time the pain was excruciating, like he had nothing to live for. Even after finding his mate, he had no desire or will to move forward. The only thing that kept him going, was the thought of her lost, or alone, in pain. He needed to find her, to reform their bond, to keep her safe. She could have been in danger, but after searching all the packs that he knew of that trafficked she wolves, he could still not find her. What he did find was Alicia.
