Chapter 37 - I'm Sorry

931 Words
Mind linking Ian, Zac sucked in a deep breath, “have you found anything. We need to get Luna out of here. You need to find us now. We are out of time.” “Zac we have nothing, I don’t know what to f*****g do. I don’t even know what to look for anymore. Baden is starting to lose control. I even hear Alex has lost it, still waiting on the report, but I hear he forcibly marked and mated Alicia. We are using every resource at our disposal. We just.. we have nothing. Alex as well, we just can’t find anything.” “Ian there is no choice, she needs to be found. My body will give out soon, I can barely heal anymore, I can’t protect her. The way Amelia has been talking, we will be killed soon, sent back in pieces.” Taking a deep breath, Zac meant to continue, but was overtaken by Ian. “Zac you don’t understand, there is nothing to go off. We have tried and followed up every lead, packs are being torn up one by one in search. All at random as we have nothing, god you could be in another country for all we know.” Ian faltered, “you need to try and give us something, anything, smells, people, clothing, f*****g anything.” “I will keep trying, but there is something else. I need you to know in case I don’t make it. Someone needs to know.” With that Zac used the rest of his strength before he passed out to send through the memory. His Luna, her happiness and state of ruin. His eye sight suddenly taken from him, Ian stopped in his tracks bracing a hand on the wall to steady himself. “No.” His broken voice sounded aloud rippling through the hallway. Ian’s first thoughts drifted to Baden, he was going to be a father, a father who may never see or hold his child or mate again. Pain ripped at his heart trying to imagine a similar situation with Sarah, the thought to torturous to bare. With a new sense of desperation and urgency Ian swung back into motion heading towards Baden’s office. He would comb through every piece of evidence again, there had to be something. Something they may had missed the first few rounds through, one way or another they would find and bring Zac and Gemma back. Ian was not going to stop, not till they were found. Zac collapsed in a heap on the floor, exhaustion claiming his broken body. All he could smell was his own blood, the metallic taste of it filling his mouth. His body shaking against the cold floor beneath him. Pain shot through his every limb as his vision blurred, looking at the screen in front of his cell he tried to focus, to stay awake. Even breathing was painful, he couldn’t do this much longer, he was healing slower than a human. The constant blood loss was draining his lifeforce, no longer could he feel the presence of his wolf. His future was quickly disappearing before his eyes. Zac knew this would be the end, he would never again see daylight, moonlight, anything. He would never escape this cell, at least not alive. He had made his peace with his ending, he only had one goal left, one task. The shadow behind the screen, she was not in a much better position then himself, but she needed to survive. She was the future, the future of his pack, his family and Master. Though still blurry eyed, Zac vision flickered across the screen counting the blood splatters from him, and Gemma. Their blood mixed together, covering nearly every surface of this damned dungeon. He couldn’t stand, so reaching down he pulled himself across the floor using his fingertips. His nails whined as they left bloodied fingerprints in his wake. Getting closer to the bars a trail of blood smeared across the floor behind him. Reaching the bars Zac leaned against the wall liking the coolness against his forehead. “Gemma, I will… somehow, I will get you out of this. I promise you.” Though barely audible he knew she had heard him as her shadow moved slightly, stiffening under his declaration. He watched her shadow clearly wrap her arms around herself, hugging her own body tightly. “Go to sleep Zac, you need rest.” After a pause and audible exhale, her voice travelled to his ears with a sense of determination. “If we don’t make it back Zac, I still have no regrets. I would rather die here and suffer having met Baden, then lived a thousand lives without him. He is the only person in this world I would live or die for, he is…. he is my everything. Now go to sleep, that is an order, you need to rest and recover.” Zac’s lips pulled slightly upwards into a smile as he closed his eyes. “Yes Luna.” Feeling at peace for the first time in a while, Zac fell quickly into oblivion, into a deep and uninterrupted sleep.
