Adrian’s POV
Derek lunged again, nearly tearing through. I locked my knees to keep from shifting right there in front of the entire council.
“Why?” The word scraped out harsher than I meant. “Who’s waiting for you in that camp, Kira?”
Her eyes flickered…something raw and private flashing through them before she shuttered it.
“No one’s waiting,” she said quietly. “But there are people I need to see as soon as possible. People that owe me.”
People.
Plural.
My mind supplied the worst possible translation: a man. Maybe more than one.
