I woke up in David’s bed.
“Ryan!” I heard and looked over. I stared at David as he walked over and hugged me.
“Did I dream that or was that real?” I asked.
“You passed out.” David said.
“So you’re saying that was… real? David what the F*CK! That’s something you tell a person before you start a relationship!” I got out of bed and started to pace. I wanted to leave, but something was keeping me there.
“I wasn’t sure how you would take it.” David said.
“Wasn’t sure… David!” I stopped. “That wasn’t a party trick? This is real?” I asked again and David nodded.
“That’s why everyone stares at you.” David said and I threw my hands up.
“Well now that makes perfect sense. Thank you for clearing that up for me!” I said sarcastically and went back to pacing.
“Will and George want to make sure you know you signed a contract with a privacy clause.” David said.
“I can’t tell anyone! They would think I’m insane!” I said taking a deep breath. “What happens now?” I asked with my eyes closed
“Well, we move forward and I can teach you about my culture or…” David trailed off.
“Or?” I asked.
“Or, I can teach you how to reject me.” David said in a sad tone.
“What’s that mean?” I asked.
“It’s a way of rejecting one’s mate. It would sever our bond and I would be set free to find my second chance. You would be free to go home.” David said sadly and I felt my heart sting. I didn’t have a home to go to. I walked over and sat down next to him.
“This explains why you’re so weird.” I said and David slightly chuckled.
“I guess so.” David said as he grabbed my hand.
“If I choose to stay, are you going to do that weird thing to my neck?” I asked and David laughed.
“I wouldn’t until you wanted me to. It’s actually a bite.” He said and I gasped.
“You guys bite each other for love!?” I said and David started laughing.
“Yes and no? It’s a mate mark. It shows you’ve found your mate.” David said and I looked around. I was trying to make heads and tails of everything. Every weird moment I had here was sinking in. This wasn’t a ordinary place.
“What are you thinking about it?” David asked bringing me out of my trance.
“My brain is connecting all the dots. Why didn’t you tell me sooner?” I asked and looked at him.
“I couldn’t. How was I supposed to tell you? Hi my name is David, I’m a werewolf and you’re my mate?” David said and I stared at him.
“What?” I said.
“I thought that was pretty clear when I mentioned the mate mark. You’re my mate. All the steps I’ve taken to this point was so I could be closer to you.” David said.
“Oh wow.” I said looking back out into the room.
“That’s why if you decide to leave, I will have to teach you how to reject me.” David said and I closed my eyes.
“No. No I don’t want that.” I said and I heard a sigh of relief come from David. A moment later his arms were around me, holding me tight. I opened my eyes. “Are you ok?” I asked.
“I am now.” He said still holding me. I was almost frozen there. I didn’t want to leave, but my mind couldn’t grasp what was being said. My mind was spinning with everything. He finally eased his grip and watched me.
“Ryan?” He asked and I looked at him. “You look kinda pale, I’m going to go grab some food. I’ll be back.” He said and I nodded. David walked out the door and I sat there. Still thinking about what David had said. Werewolves were things of fantasy. They weren’t real. How on earth could this be real and happening to me. Why couldn’t it be simple like him being in the mafia? What if the mafia wasn’t real and werewolves are real? What am I thinking about!? This is ridiculous! My mind was wandering and I didn’t know what to do anymore. The door opened and David came in.
“Here.” He put a drink in my hand. “The chef is making something quickly.” David said and I nodded. “How are you?” He asked.
“I’m not even sure what to say. We’ve been together for what? Two weeks? This is just a lot of information.” I said.
“Well it’s a small amount. Probably the most shocking.” He sat there a moment. “You know what! I’m going to call Audra.” David said pulling his phone out.
“What? Why?” I asked.
“Hey. Yeah. Will you come help me explain? Awesome. See you soon.” David said and hung up.
“Is she?” I asked and David shook his head.
“She’s a half breed. Her father was a human.” David said.
“Oh.” I said sighing.
“I’m sorry.” David picked up my hand and kissed it. “I am happy you’re not rejecting me.” He said happily.
“Was that really you?” I turn to him.
“What?” He looked at me confused.
“That giant wolf. That was you?” I asked and David laughed.
“I’m actually the smallest of my family. You should see George.” David said and I stared at him.
“He’s not the mayor?” I asked.
“He’s the Alpha. It’s like a human mayor, only more power over the people.” David said.
“Thats why you had to listen to him?” I asked and David nodded. We sat silent for a moment.
“Come on, foods ready.” David stood and held out his hand.
